Game 1 Stats | Game 2 Stats

CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina softball team (15-16, 1-7 SBC) dropped both halves of their doubleheader with the UT-Arlington Mavericks (14-15, 4-3 SBC) on Saturday at CCU Softball Stadium as the Chanticleers connected on six homers on the day.

Game 1

In game one, the Mavericks connected on ten runs through the first six innings but Coastal was able to make it game in the bottom half of the fifth when they were able to score six seven runs of their own. In the inning, Timi Tooley connected on her first homer of the season with one out.

Freshman Stavi Augur and Samantha Sack followed with base hits and then sophomore Kassidy Smith doubled in the two to cut the lead to 10-3. The Chants weren't done as junior shortstop Alexis Alvino followed up the scoring with another big blast and her sixth of the season.

With no one on base and one out, junior Natalie David started off another rally with a single to left field but then the leading home run hitter on the Chanticleers squad, freshman Courtney Dean capped off the fifth rally with her seventh home run of the season with a two run shot to center field.

The Mavs used three pitchers in the game as JoJo Valencia picked up her fifth win of the season and Randi Phillips came in to close out game one as she pitched the last 2.2 innings.

Chants' Freshman Kaitlin Beasley-Polko dropped the decision as she fell to 7-9 on the season as she lasted 4.1 innings giving up seven runs, four earned.

Game 2

Game two started off the same way as the first game as UTA got out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the third, but this time the Chanticleers were able to tie the score at 2-2.

In the bottom of the fourth, Coastal tied it with a lead-off walk to David to be followed up by senior Kailey Mellen's fourth home run of the season.

UT-Arlington answered with five runs in the top of the fifth when Bryanna Latko and KJ Murphy homered.

Coastal Carolina added two more runs, one in the sixth and one in the seventh off the long ball from Smith and junior Angela Bucilli's first of the season.

Randi Phillips picked up the win in game two as she threw a complete game allowing four runs on five hits.

Guillette took the loss for CCU as she gave up seven runs in five innings of work.
