CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina beach volleyball team lost both halves of an ASUN doubleheader to Mercer Wednesday afternoon at the CCU Beach Volleyball Complex.

Coastal falls to 0-12 overall with the losses, and closes out its ASUN schedule with an 0-8 record, falling short of qualifying for this year's ASUN Championship.

Mercer took the opening match 4-1, and held on to win the second match 3-2.

In the noon match, Mercer grabbed the first three points to quickly seal the victory. The Bears' fourth and third pairings won in straight sets, while the fifth won in three.

Coastal got its lone point from its second pairing of Leah Hardeman and Aleksandra Djuric, who downed Sophie Peel and Kacy Ogden, 25-23, 21-18.

Mercer closed the early match with a three-set win by its first pairing.

Hardeman and Djuric prevailed once again in the day's second match, this time defeating Amber Gibson and Gracie Garanich in three sets at No. 2. The Chants also picked up a point at No. 5, where Autumn Otto and Sara Boothe won a three-set match.

Mercer's first two points came on the first and fourth courts, setting up the match-deciding point at No. 3.

Shelby Ladewig and Kinga Windisch took the first set in extras on the third court, but could not hold off Jessica Johnson and Elli Gibson, who won the final two sets to give the Bears the 3-2 victory.

Coastal concludes its 2018 schedule this weekend with four matches at South Carolina. The Chants face Missouri State and the Gamecocks on Friday, followed by Tulane and College of Charleston on Saturday.
