New Orleans, La. - On Tuesday afternoon, the Sun Belt Conference recognized Coastal Carolina's Courtney Dean of the Chanticleers softball team as she was voted to the conference's first team.
The freshman concluded the regular season in the top ten of six different offensive categories.
The Indian Trail, North Carolina native was ninth in the conference with a .345 batting average, second with 15 home runs, third with 39 runs batted in, tied for second with three triples, and second with marks of 104 total bases and a .717 slugging percentage.
Earlier this season, Dean was also recognized by the Sun Belt as she was named Co-Player of the Week for the week of February 26th as she hit .600 (9-of-15) and had three stolen bases against Georgetown, Pitt, and St. Joe's.
Since joining the conference a season ago, this will be Coastal Carolina's second time they have had an athlete that has been named to the conference's first team. One season ago, the Sun Belt recognized former Chanticleer Taty Forbes for her efforts.
The Chanticleers concluded their season on Sunday but fought all the way to the very end as they made a late push to make this weekend's conference tournament by winning their last four of six games but fell short as they dropped the final game of the season to Appalachian State, 6-4.
