Lacrosse Introduces Freshmen Class

Coastal Carolina women’s lacrosse welcomes nine newcomers to the team
CONWAY – With the 2020 season just a few months away, the Coastal Carolina women's lacrosse team is excited to introduce its 2019-20 freshmen class, which is comprised of eight newcomers including two U.S. Lacrosse High School All-Americans.
The group of new Chants include Bethany Bruck, Kiley Davis, Abi George, Jordan Gertz, Brooke Gottlieb, Erica Knapp, Claire Martel, and Marissa Munson. Fifth-year head coach Kristen Selvage's freshmen class is a balanced unit, as four of the nine first-year Chants are midfielders, two are attackers, two more are defenders and one is a goalkeeper.
"They are all fierce competitors and they have already helped our team pick up the pace of our game by creating a competitive and gritty environment," Selvage said. "We have high expectations from this group, who have come in prepared and determined to contend for positions and playing time."
Meet the Chants
Bethany Bruck – Midfielder – Bel Air, Md.
Selvage on Bruck: "She is competent and trustworthy on defense, an integral part of the draw, and intelligent on the offensive end by being deadly in front of the cage."
Kiley Davis – Midfielder – Hampstead, N.H.
Selvage on Davis: "Davis has a proactive lax IQ on the defensive end and gets excited about taking chances. She is quick on the draw and helps to push fast and sometimes uneven transitions."
Abi George – Midfielder – Long Branch, N.J.
Selvage on George: "George is a powerful midfielder from a family storied with many collegiate lacrosse players and now is her time to make her mark. Her power will find the cage, but her chippy and relentless play will be necessary on the redefend and on the draw."
Jordan Gertz – Defender – Hanover, Pa.
Selvage on Gertz: "Gertz's discipline on defense is super frustrating because she is quick and strong enough to stay with you but will not commit the foul. She will continue to grow and shine and we know she will grab some time on our field if not starting."
Brook Gottlieb – Attacker – Reisterstown, Md.
Selvage on Gottlieb: "Gottlieb's lax IQ is off the charts. She is slippery around the crease and inside the 8-meter. She is fun to watch because she smiles all the time on the field and it reminds us to play with passion no matter how tough it gets."
Erica Knapp – Attacker – North Chili, N.Y.
Selvage on Knapp: "Knapp is an attacker with vision and power. She has a tough-willed style of play and isn't afraid to deliver through pressure and doubles."
Claire Martell – Goalkeeper – Verbank, N.Y.
Selvage on Martell: "Martell has incredibly fast hands and an awareness of everything around her crease and cage. She is a fearless and feisty goalkeeper with a dedication and passion for the game."
Marissa Munson – Defender – Forest Hill, Md.
Selvage on Munson: "Munson has a great stick for a low defender and a very coachable attitude. She is quick to help and is loud in her communication on her every move. The freshman isn't afraid to show signs of leadership early in her career."

- 2019 Team MVP at Patterson Mill High School
- Named all-state in both soccer and lacrosse

Kiley Davis – Midfielder – Hampstead, N.H.
- 2018 U.S. Lacrosse All-American
- Two-time N.H. All-State first team
- Scored 100th goal as a junior and 200th career point as a senior
- Selected to and played in the Senior All-Star Game
