Chants' Cross Country Ready for Southeast Regional

CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina Chanticleer cross country team will compete at the 2019 NCAA Cross Country Southeast Regional on Friday morning at the Panorama Farms cross country course hosted by the University of Virginia.

Just two weeks ago at the 2019 Sun Belt Cross Championships, Chanticleer men's runners Nadeel Wildschutt and Adriaan Wildschutt along with women's runner Lisha van Onselen earned All-Sun Belt Honors.
The Wildschutt brothers finished first and second at the Sun Belt championships to earn First Team All-Sun Belt honors for the second consecutive year. Nadeel placed first (23:29.00) in the 8k event as he became the first harrier in the conference to win three-straight runner of the year awards since Nicholas Aliwell of Western Kentucky (1994-96).
Adriaan finished five seconds behind his older brother and 38 seconds ahead of third-place finisher Justin Domangue of UT Arlington.
For the women, junior Lisha van Onselen became a two-time Second Team All-Sun Belt member with an eighth-place finish on the 5k course. The Amanzimtoti, South Africa native finished roughly 12 seconds off her personal-best time of 17:54.40.
Between the men and women, CCU had six runners with personal-best times in the respective races.
History
In the history of the CCU cross country program, the Chanticleers have had several individuals to excel in the regional event.
The women have had a total of 19 women place on the NCAA South All-Region team, with the latest coming from Annie Bothma in 2017. The former Chanticleer won the 6k race at Panorama Farms with a time of 22:22.50, becoming the second Chanticleer to win NCAA Southeast Regional Runner of the Year.
Just two years ago, on the same Panorama Farms cross country course, her male counterpart, Nadeel Wildschutt became the fourth male runner to earn a spot on the all-region team with a fourth-place finish in the 10k event.
Friday's festivities are set to begin at 10:05 a.m. ET, with the women's 6k race starting at 10:30 a.m. and the men's 10k race, will begin at 11:30 a.m. ET.
