CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina softball team improved to 19-4 and 3-0 in the Sun Belt as they defeated the Georgia State Panthers on Sunday afternoon by the score 5-0 behind a shutout from sophomore
Kaitlin Beasley-Polko shutout and the offensive punch from freshman
Abbey Montoya who had two home runs on the day.
After picking up the game one win on Friday night, Beasley-Polko replicated her performance with a second straight shutout win. The right-hander allowed just three hits on the day and struck out seven.
CCU picked up a run in the bottom of the first but virtually sealed the game in the third when freshman
Mackenzie Beyer led off the inning with a walk and then Montoya hit her first homer of the day as she took the Panthers' Savannah Freeman's 1-1 pitch just inside the right field foul pole.
Sophomore
Courtney Dean extended her hitting streak to six games in the fourth inning with an RBI double to right center, scoring sophomore
Kassidy Smith from third base.
Montoya capped off her day at the plate when the freshman second baseman took GSU Emily Soles 1-0 pitch deep over the center field fence for her third long ball this season.
In total, the Castle Rock,Colorado native went 2-for-3, two homers, and three RBI.
Freeman took the loss for the Panthers as she lasted just one inning. The starter allowed one hit on three runs allowed. Reliever Emily Soles was effective for her team as she went five innings, four hits, allowed two runs, one earned.
On the season, Beasley-Polko now has pitched a complete game win shut out five times (31.2 innings) on 16 hits.
Coastal Carolina will be in action over the next two days as they start a two game series with former Chanticleer Bri Chiusano's Bryant Bulldogs. Games times for the series are Monday at 4 p.m. and Tuesday at 1.p.m.Â
