Chanticleers Head To Duke On Tuesday

CONWAY  - On Tuesday, the Coastal Carolina softball team will travel to Durham, North Carolina to play a non-conference midweek matchup between ACC's Duke Blue Devils in the second meeting between the two schools

The Chanticleers are coming up into the match-up with a record of 22-6 overall after taking of one of three games in last weekend's conference series at Georgia Southern. In their lone win of the weekend, Coastal came back from a 4-2 deficit to pick up the win as they  hit three home runs in the final three innings

Freshman Sydney Guess  batted .400, a homer, a run batted in, with a .700 slugging percentage on the weekend. In the 5-4 win on Saturday afternoon, the lefty outfielder was on the back end of back-to-back-to-back home runs that gave the Chanticleers their only win of the weekend.

In the three game set, Chanticleers players, Kaitlin Beasley-Polko, sophomore Courtney Dean and junior Kassidy Smith had their respective streaks snapped.

Sophomore Kaitlin Beasley-Polko had a 23 inning scoreless streaked in the 3-1 loss, but pitched in all three games against the Eagles going 1-1, 17 innings pitched, 20 strikeouts and allowed just five earned runs.

Going into the series,  Dean  was working on an seven game hitting streak. The sophomore continued the streak through Friday with  a 1-for-4 day but.  ended it on Saturday in the win. During her streak Dean batted .429, three homers, seven runs batted in, five walks with six runs scored.

Smith's streak of 24 games of reaching base was snapped on Sunday in the 3-0 loss and  during that streak the junior walked 16 times and was hit by 12 pitches.

Duke

The Blue Devils are in their second year and currently 12-15. In their last 10 games are 6-4 and took two of three games from a common opponent with Coastal, the Pitt Panthers. Duke won the first two games of the series  but fell on to Pittsburgh on Sunday, 5-3.

In the ten games, Duke has five batters hitting over .300. Brianna Butler leads the way with a .400 average after going 4-for-6 with two RBI and her first-career home run last weekend against Pitt. Jazmine Moreno is hitting .375 followed by Deja Davis (.344), Reilly Metzger (.333) and Jameson Kavel (.303)

Like Guess for the Chants,  the freshman  Davis has gotten of to excellent start in her freshman campaign. The infielder is second on her team with a .289 batting average and leads the team with 26 hits and 15 stolen bases.

Series
CCU holds the 1-0 lead in the series as last year Ashley Guillette picked up  a complete game, 3-1 win while allowing just one run and scattering seven hits. The big blow for Chants came in the bottom of the first as Dean hit a  two-run home run
