No. 16 Chants Return Home to Host Troy This Weekend

Conway, S.C. – After being on the road for the last two weeks, the No. 16 Chanticleers return home to host the Troy Trojans this weekend, March 22-24, in Sun Belt Conference play at Springs Brooks Stadium.

Gates open 90 minutes prior to first pitch. No re-entry is allowed at Springs Brooks Stadium. Clear bag policy is enforced at Springs Brooks Stadium. (Gameday Information can be found here)

  • Saturday is our baseball Military Appreciation game. Anyone that presents a military ID at the ticket office for that game will receive one free ticket to the afternoon's contest.
  • Coastal Carolina Athletics has worked directly with HMR Veteran Services and Bill Biggs and is pleased to recognize and support our nation's Veterans.
 


Chants Chatter
  • Coastal Carolina's home conference season begins this weekend, as the Chants host the Troy Trojans for a three-game Sun Belt series on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, March 22-24. Coastal is 8-1-1 in their 10 Sun Belt Conference series played at home since joining the league in 2017, with the lone loss coming to Georgia Southern in 2017 and the tie coming versus Louisiana that same season. The Chants have swept five of their 10 home conference series over the last two seasons.
  • Coastal has swept each of its last two Sun Belt Conference home series with both coming at the tail end of last season. The Chants swept ULM in three games - 14-4, 11-4 and 17-16 - from April 27-29 and then two weeks later swept Little Rock - 4-0, 6-4 and 1-0 - from May 11-13 in their final home conference series of the 2018 season.
  • The Chanticleers have won each of the last three meetings against Troy, which included an 11-6 win in the Sun Belt Championship Tournament title game last year. Coastal also won the last two games of the three-game regular season series by scores of 3-2 and 5-4 after falling in the first game on Friday night 4-2.
  • Coastal has scored four runs or more in a single inning a total of 16 times this season, including in each of the last three games. The Chants are 11-1-1 this season in games which they post a "big inning" and have posted at least one "big inning" in all three of their Sun Belt Conference games thus far this season.
  • Coastal is a perfect 12-0 this season when holding its opponent to five runs or less for the game. In fact, the Chants won six-straight games from Feb. 16 to Feb. 23 in which they held their foes to less than five runs.
  • The Chants have posted a season-high six runs in an inning three times this season, all of which came in blowout wins. Coastal scored six runs in the first inning versus Wake Forest (3/6), the eighth inning at ULM (3/16) and the seventh inning at ULM (3/17).
  • The Chanticleers have hit one home run in seven different games this season and are 6-1 in those contests. Coastal has also hit two or more home runs in a game seven different times as well and are 6-1 in those games on the year.
  • A total of eight different Chants have scored double-digit runs this season led by lead-off Cory Wood and his team-high 31 runs scored. Kyle Skeels (22), Kieton Rivers (21) and Zach Biermann (20) have all tallied 20 runs or more this season.
  • The Chants' pitching staff is averaging just over nine strikeouts per nine innings this season entering play this weekend. Coastal is striking out on average 9.1 hitters per nine innings this season and leads the Sun Belt with 195 batters struck out overall for the year.
  • Coastal Carolina's pitching staff has struck out double-digit hitters in 12 different games this season, including a season-high 13 Ks in back-to-back wins over Indiana (March 3) and Wake Forest (March 5).

On Deck
  • Coastal Carolina will take on UNCW in back-to-back midweek games next week. CCU will head up to Wilmington on Tuesday, March 26, for the first game and then will return on Wednesday, March 27 to host the Seahawks in non-conference play. Both games are set for 6 p.m. ET start times.
