CONWAY – The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team shut out UT Arlington, 4-0, Friday afternoon in a Sun Belt Conference match at the Stevens Tennis Complex.
Coastal improves to 12-6 overall and 2-1 in conference with the win. Additionally, the Chants remain perfect on their home court this season with a 7-0 record.
The Chants took a 1-0 lead in the match following doubles wins on courts two and three.
Daiki Tanabe and
Pyry Hyrkkonen delivered the first blow with a 6-2 victory at No. 3, while
Luiz Faria and
Lawrence Perrin clinched the doubles point at No. 2, winning 6-4.
Two of Coastal's three singles points were won in straight sets, including Faria at No. 1 and
Gonzalo Achondo at No. 5.
Hyrkkonen, playing at No. 4, won his opening set 6-0 but fell 4-6 in the second. He then closed the match and preserved the shutout with a 6-3 clincher in the third.
The matches on courts two, three and six went unfinished.
"This was a total team effort from the beginning of the match to the end," said CCU head coach
Chris Powers. "I couldn't be any more proud of how we competed today. This was a big win for the men in teal."
Coastal remains at home to host Louisiana at 10 a.m. Sunday at the Stevens Tennis Complex.
