MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Coastal Carolina men's and women's track and field team opened up their 2019 outdoor season in nearby Myrtle Beach at Doug Shaw Stadium for the Coastal Carolina Invitational. The Chanticleers had a successful first day as it saw a stadium and school record broken along with 11 other top ten finishes.
Men
Erik Eckleben broke the Doug Shaw Stadium and Coastal Carolina record in the long jump with a distance of 7.67 meters. The Doug Shaw Stadium was set by Diego Lawerence (7.53) of Campbell in 2011. The senior Eckleben beat the Chanticleer mark set back in 2007 by Jerome Simpson (7.50)
Teammates
Christian Johnson and
Richie Sadler placed second and third respectively with distances of 6.86 and 6.65 meters. Johnson's mark was good for a personal best. A season ago, Johnson set a previous high of 6.72 meters.

The senior got his best throw of the competition on the second try after throwing 46.26 on the first attempt and 48.58 meters on the third. Langdon earned himself a personal best throw in the event as he beat his former personal best throw of 42.66 at last year's Sun Belt Championships at Texas State. The freshman Scott in his first outdoor event picked up a sixth place finish when he threw 37.82 meters on his first attempt.
