Chanticleers and Mavericks Tangle In Sun Belt Conference Play Easter Weekend

CONWAY - After picking up a 6-4 mid-week win versus the UNCW Seahawks at home on Tuesday night, the Coastal Carolina softball team turns their attention to Sun Belt Conference play as they travel to take on the UTA Mavericks this weekend.

The Chanticleers go into the weekend series with a record of 32-12 overall and in fourth-place with 11-7 record in the Sun Belt.
 
Junior Kassidy Smith went 3-for-3 in Tuesday's win versus UNCW as she collected a home run, a double, and three RBI.
 
Smith's homer now give her 12th home run of the season tying teammate sophomore Courtney Dean for the Sun Belt lead in long balls.
 
In her final at-bat of the night, the Collinsville, Ill., native belted a double into right-center field that scored Dean to extend the lead to 6-4.
Freshman Mackenzie Beyer went 1-for-3 on Tuesday night as she hit her fifth home run of the season.
 
The Cranston, R.I., native has recorded a .400 batting average (6-for-15) in her last six games with three home runs, a double, and five runs batted in.
 
Going into the ULM series in late March, senior Alexis Alvino was batting .218 but in a span of eight games and 42 at-bats, the Levittown, N.Y., native has batted .400, tallied two home runs, collected four RBI and improved her season batting average to a career-high .250.
 
Both of the Chanticleer pitchers on Tuesday; Kaitlin Beasley-Polko and Ashley Guillette continued to re-write the Chanticleer record book with their efforts.
 
The sophomore Beasley-Polko picked up her 21st victory on the season, which puts her into eighth all-time for single-season wins. Guillette added her second save of the season and seventh of her career tied for first all-time.
 
UTA
The Mavericks dropped to 21-23 overall on Tuesday as they fell to #11 Texas by the score of 4-3 at home at Allan Saxe Field.
 
Laura Henrikson started but got a no-decision for UTA as she pitched 3.1 innings and allowed an unearned run on one hit.
 
Reliever Allie Gardiner took the loss for the Mavs and fell to 3-5 on the season. Gardiner pitched 1.2 innings in relief and allowed three runs on three hits.
 
Bri Buchianti led the UTA squad on the day in the hits department as she went 2-for-3. KJ Murphy came off the bench to hit her first home
run of the season in the seventh inning to cut the Longhorn lead down to one.

Arlington goes into this weekend's series 9-9 in Sun Belt play and sit in sixth-place.
 
The Mavs feature two batters in their lineup that rank in the top 10 of the Sun Belt in batting average. Laura Curry is the Sun Belt leader with a .413 batting average, and Whitney Walton is fifth in the conference with a .391 batting average.
 
Sophomore Randi Phillips anchors the UTA pitching staff and she ranks in the top 10 in two Sun Belt pitching categories. Phillips is fifth in the conference with 143 innings pitched, and tied for sixth with 11 wins.
 
History
The Chanticleers are 1-6 lifetime in the all-time series against the Mavericks. CCU took the final game of the three-game series in Conway last season by the score 8-6 as they tallied five extra bases hits; three home runs, a triple and a double.
 
Coastal and UTA will start their weekend series on Thursday with the first pitch set for 6:00 pm. ET.
