Chants Travel To Charleston For Final Midweek Game of Season

CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina softball team will look forward to their final midweek game of the season as they travel two hours south to Charleston to take on the College of Charleston Cougars on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m.

The Chanticleers dropped to 32-15 after last weekend's three-game slide to at UT Arlington.
 
Natalie David went 5-for-8 (.625) with two home runs and had six runs batted in. The senior started last weekend's game one with a .130 batting average but after game three, the Evansville, Ind., native improved her batting average by 128 points to .258.
 
As a team, CCU cranked out seven home runs in the series and now have 74 on the season, 21 more than the Sun Belt regular-season champion Louisiana (53).
 
Kassidy Smith went into the series tied with fellow Chant Courtney Dean with a conference-leading 12 home runs. Smith went 2-for-3 in game one with a homer to overtake her teammate for the lead with her 13th of the season. On the weekend, the junior batted .429 (3-for-7), added two RBI and drew four walks.
 
Senior Ashley Guillette pitched solid well in two of her three appearances against UTA. The Oxford, Ct., native totaled 10 innings pitched and gave up five runs on six hits. The righty came in relief in game one on Thursday where she did not allow a run in the final 4.2 innings. In game three, Guillette added 1.1 innings more of scoreless softball.
 
College of Charleston
The Cougars are going into enter Tuesday's game against CCU with an overall record of 21-25 after being swept in Harrisonburg, Va., last weekend by the #20th-ranked James Madison Dukes.
 
The Dukes held Charleston to one run on six hits in the series. Freshman Cougars Cougars freshmen Noel Dominguez and Jenna Helberg led their team on the weekend with two hits apiece.
 
In game two of the series, Charleston took a short-lived 1-0 lead in the top of the second on an RBI single by Helberg that scored Dexlie Inman from second base. James Madison would answer for three in the bottom of the second and then three more in the bottom of the fifth for the 6-1 win.
 
The Cougars bat are hitting .274 as a team on the season and have nine batters that have a batting average of .265 or better.
 
Madi Brown leads the Cougars in hitting as she has gone 46-for-143 (.322) on the season. Brown ranks ninth in the Colonial Athletic Association with 46 hits and fourth with 143 at-bats. The senior outfielder is the co-leader on the team and sixth in the CAA with 12 doubles and is tied for second on the team with 19 RBI.
 
Drayton Siegling anchors the Charleston pitching staff with a 7-4, and a 2.78 earned run average. In 29 appearances, the freshman has amassed a team-high 93 innings, two complete games, and three saves.
 
History
The Chanticleers hold the all-time advantage with a 33-12 record and recorded double-digit winning streaks twice, but in the past two seasons, Cougars won by the score of 2-1.
 
In 2018, Guillette pitched a complete game, five-hitter, and took the loss despite not allowing an earned run.
 
Guillette also took the loss in 2017 as she pitched 5.1 innings and allowed two runs on five hits.
