Lafayette, La. – The Coastal softball team dropped to 33-17 overall and 11-12 in the Sun Belt on Saturday afternoon with an 8-0 loss to the No. 8 Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns by the score of 8-0 at Lamson Park.
Louisiana scored four runs in the bottom of the first off Chanticleer starter
Ashley Guillette. The Cajuns got a pair of RBI singles from Raina O'Neal and Kourtney Gremillion. Lexi Comeaux added two more RBI to cap off the first inning rally.
The Cajuns added four more runs on three hits in the bottom of the second as they got two runs batted in from a single into right field from Alissa Dalton and another run batted in from the previously mentioned Gremillion.
Coastal Carolina threatened in the fourth as they got back-to-back hits off Louisiana starter Summer Ellyson.
Kassidy Smith led off the inning with a single past the third baseman Gremillion while
Abbey Montoya followed with a double. The junior Ellyson would go on to retire the next three Chanticleer batters and strand both runners in scoring position to end her day in the circle.
Ragin' Cajun reliever Carrie Boswell worked the fifth inning for the hold to improve the Louisiana overall record to 45-4 and keep their conference record unblemished at 23-0.
Louisiana's Ellyson went four innings and allowed no runs on two hits for her 32nd win of the season.
Dalton and Gremillion combined for five runs batted in for the Ragin' Cajuns. Dalton went 2-for-3 with two RBI and Gremillion went 2-for-4 with three runs batted in.
CCU's Guillette dropped to 12-6 on the season as she allowed eight runs, four earned, on nine hits
Coastal Carolina and Louisiana will wrap up their three-game series on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. ET.
