CONWAY – The Coastal Carolina beach volleyball team opened the Conway Classic Friday afternoon with a pair of sweeps, downing Morehead State and Austin Peay by identical 5-0 scores at the CCU Beach Volleyball Complex.
 
Coastal improves to 13-9 (2-0 ASUN) with the pair of victories, and will face the same opponents once again on Saturday to close out the Conway Classic.
 
Match 1: Coastal 5 – Morehead State 0
The morning match included heavy bouts of rain, but that did not deter the Chants from recording their seventh shutout of the season.
 
Coastal won all five courts in straight sets.
 
The 4's and 5's got the day started with back-to-back wins. Shelby Ladewig and Aleksandra Djuric won 21-13, 21-12 at No. 4, followed by a 21-14, 21-15 win by Kalin Eske and Anett Nemeth at No. 5.
 
Leah Hardeman and Sydney Alvis teamed up to deliver a 21-19, 21-18 victory at No. 1. Anaiah Boyer and Lucy Campbell claimed the second court 21-17, 21-13. Kate Federico and Tanner Gauther finished things off at No. 3, 21-18, 21-19.
 
Match 2: Coastal 5 – Austin Peay 0
The rain had gone by the time the final match of the day began. The results remained the same however, and Coastal notched shutout number eight of the year.
 
It was another dominant performance for Coastal as the Chants swept four of the five courts.
 
Only the fourth court went the distance, but Ladewig and Djuric came out on top for the second time of the afternoon, taking the point 21-17, 17-21, 15-11
