Coastal Carolina women’s lacrosse earned 13 all-conference honors

CONWAY – CCU seniors Haley Alexander, Harley Barrett, and Madeline Bromley were named ASUN Player of the Year, ASUN Defensive Player of the Year, and ASUN Scholar-Athlete of the Year, respectively the ASUN conference office announced on Wednesday. The Coastal Carolina women's lacrosse team fared well in the 2019 ASUN All-Conference voting as five Chanticleers earned first-team honors with one receiving a second-team nod and one freshman being tabbed to the all-freshman team and three student-athletes made the all-academic team.
Alexander is the first Chant in program history to named the ASUN Player of the Year while Bromley's ASUN Scholar-Athlete of the Year honor is also a program first. Barrett's second ASUN Defensive player of the Year honor is also just the second overall for the Coastal program.
On the season, Alexander tallied 69 points on 51 goals and 18 assists tying the CCU record for most goals and points scored in a season while finishing second in the same categories in ASUN action. Against Mercer, Alexander found the back of the net six times along with one assist to lead the Chanticleer offensive attack in the double-digit win. The Bel Air, Md. native, who earned the ASUN Player of the Week award three times for her play, became the Chants all-time career goals leader with the third of her five goals back on March 19 against UCONN. Just 10 days later, March 29 against Howard, she set the all-time points needing all three points scored in the match. Against Mercer, on April 12 the senior attacker needed just one point to reach the 200 points scored in a career.
Barrett picked up her second-consecutive ASUN Defensive Player of the Year honor. For the season, the Collegeville, Pa. native led the conference with a 50.0 saves percentage and finished third with a 9.65 goals against average and 141 goals against while making 141 saves on the year. Barrett hit the 400 career saves plateau with the first save of the day against Kent State and needs just 25 more to reach 500.
Bromley was named as the ASUN Scholar-Athlete of the Year the first such award for the Chanticleers. Aside from scoring 60 points (36 goals and 24 assists) on the season, the Cary, N.C. native was named team captain and carried a 3.96 GPA in communications. The senior attacker tallied 11 multiple goal games with eight being a hat-trick or better. Bromley had a season-best seven points and picked up the game-winning goal in the 18-11 win over Stetson on April 7.
Alexander, Barrett, Megan Kilpatrick, Emily D'Orsaneo, and Samantha Courtemanche were the five named to the 2019 ASUN First Team All-Conference team. Alexander and Barrett were two of the four unanimous selections to the first team. Bromley was tabbed to the second-team while newcomer Lauren Cremen was selected to the 2019 ASUN All-Freshman Team.
Alexander, a biology major with a 3.75 GPA, and Kilpatrick, with a 3.82 GPA in recreation & sport management, along with Bromley, were selected to the 2019 ASUN Conference All-Academic Team. Alexander is a three-time honoree while the honor is Bromley's second and Kilpatrick's first.
