CONWAY – Coastal Carolina sophomore outfielder Courtney Dean was named to the 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-District second team in softball, CoSIDA announced on Thursday. She was named to the NCAA Division I District 4 first team.
Â
The 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Softball Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The Google Cloud Academic All-America® program separately recognizes softball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Dean, a public health major, had started and played in 52 games for the Chants this season in center field. The second-year had her season shortened due to injury as she was leading the Chants with a .327 batting average, 36 RBI, a .654 slugging percentage, 11 doubles and was second on the team and the Sun Belt Conference with 13 home runs.
Last season, in her freshman year, the Indian Trail, N.C., native was awarded with a 2018 NFCA Southeast second team All-Region honor, and named to the 2018 Sun Belt All-Conference first team.Â
In her short two years at Coastal Carolina, Dean has been tabbed with various academic honors; 2017-18 NFCAÂ Academic All-American, 2017-18 Sun Belt Conference Commissioner's List, and a member of the Fall of 2017 and 2018 Coastal President's List.
