CONWAY – It was announced on Saturday evening from the Sun Belt Conference that the sixth-seeded Coastal Carolina Chanticleers (35-19, 13-14 Sun Belt) will take on the seventh-seeded Georgia Southern Eagles (23-27, 9-17 Sun Belt) in a single-elimination game on Wednesday at 11a.m. ET at Bobcat Softball Stadium on the host campus of Texas State University.
Coastal Carolina
The Chanticleers head into the 2019 Sun Belt Tournament after taking two of three from the Appalachian State Mountaineers in last weekend's regular season-ending series win.
Senior
Natalie David is
a riding a three-game hitting streak where she had hits in each of the games against the Mountaineers. The Evansville, Ind., native led the Chants at the dish last weekend as she went 5-for-10 with two home runs, along with a double, and two singles.
Senior pitcher
Ashley Guillette continued her ascent to the top of the Chanticleers' record book as she picked up her 11th career save on Thursday against App State and surpassed Michelle Hall's (1990-93) previous record of 10. In game three, Guillette ended the regular season with her 13th win of the year and earned her seventh complete game of the season as she allowed a run, and struck out six.
Georgia Southern
The Eagles enter the tournament off a sweep of the Georgia State Panthers at home in Statesboro, Ga. last weekend to clinch the seventh seed in the 2019 tournament.
Macy Coleman and Mekhia Freeman were the key contributors in the 6-5 win on Thursday afternoon as each Eagle had two hits apiece. Jodi Handler improved to 3-2 on the season as she came in and pitched 3.2 innings of shutout relief for the Eagles game one victory.
In game two, Georgia Southern scored nine runs in the fifth inning as the rally was started with a Shelby Wilson walk. Wilson would come around to score before ending the game in her second at-bat of the inning with a walk-off home run to defeat the Panthers 10-1.
Kaylee Ramos improved to 4-2 on the season and threw 5.1 innings of two-hit scoreless softball in game three. Handler entered the game in the seventh to pick up her first save of the season. The Georgia Southern bats had six hits in the game, highlighted by a Wilson double and Faith Shirley's tenth home run of the season.
Season Series
In mid-March, the Chanticleers visited the Eagles in week two of conference play, and Georgia Southern was able to get an edge over the Coastal Carolina as they took two of the three games.
In the three-game series, the Eagles hit .297 as a team (22-for-74), had two home runs, and scored 10 runs. In comparison, the Chanticleers hit .241 (20-for-83) with three home runs, and scored six runs.
