
Queen City Bound for Chants' Cross Country

CONWAY, S.C. - After a one-week hiatus, the Coastal Carolina cross country teams return to competition on Friday afternoon at the Queen City Invite in Charlotte, N.C. on the McAlpine Park course.
For the women, senior Lisha van Onselen is coming off a win two weeks ago at the Adidas/Winthrop Invitational 5k, earning herself a second Sun Belt Runner of the Week for her career. The native of Amanzimtoti, South Africa clocked a time of 18:17.10 and averaged a 5:52.70 mile for her fourth career victory and second win at Winthrop in two seasons.
Freshman Ashley Rulison has gotten off to a strong start to her young college career as she has finished second in both of her career starts for the Chants. Two weeks ago, at Winthrop, the Burton, Ohio native shaved 59.10 off her career-best time to finish with a mark of 18:55.90.
The men are coming off a third-place finish out of 11 teams at Winthrop as they scored 82 points.
Junior Andrew Southard was the only male Chanticleer to place in the top 10 (10th) as he completed the 8k course with a personal-best time of 26:25.20.
Fellow juniors Andrew Avery and Doug Mullen also ended the day clocking personal best times. Avery placed 13th with a time of 26:44.30 and Mullen followed three spots behind in 16th position with a time of 28.10 seconds.
The last time Coastal Carolina visited Charlotte's McAlpine Park was in 2015 as Letitia Saayman took first place at the Royals Challenge 5k women's race and the team finished in third place out of 37 teams.
