Lacrosse Picked Third in Preseason Poll; Three Chants Named Preseason All-Conference

Coastal Carolina women’s lacrosse will open up the 2020 slate on Feb. 8
ATLANTA, Ga. – Coastal Carolina women's lacrosse received one first-place vote and was picked to finish third in the 2020 ASUN Conference Preseason Lacrosse Coaches Poll, it was announced today by the league office.
In addition to the third-place selection, the Chanticleers had three student-athletes in Emily D'Orsaneo, Megan Kilpatrick and Samantha Courtemanche named to the ASUN preseason all-conference team.
Coastal totaled 47 points in the preseason poll and was picked behind the defending champions in Jacksonville (62 points) and last year's runner-up Liberty (55). Jacksonville tallied six first-place votes, while Liberty matched CCU with one.
Rounding out the preseason poll was Kennesaw State (42), Stetson (32), Kent State (25), Akron (16), and Howard (9).
D'Orsaneo is a two-time ASUN all-conference selection earning first-team honors last season after second-team accolades in 2018 on top of being named to the ASUN All-Freshman team in 2017. One of the Chants' most experienced players, the senior has played in 56 games over the last three seasons, picking up 94 ground balls, causing 43 turnovers, and winning 13 draws from her defensive position.
Voted a team captain for the second-straight season, Kilpatrick will look to lead the Chants to a league championship again in 2019. The two-time first-team all-conference selection and 2019 ASUN All-Tournament team pick has started in every single game over the last two seasons for the Chants in the midfield. The redshirt-senior has played in 53 games over her CCU career, totaling three points on two goals and one assist. She has also scooped up 60 ground balls, caused 41 turnovers, and won a total of 33 draws, including 28 draw controls last season which was second on the team overall.
Courtemanche, who is Coastal's leading scorer returning from last season, will lead an offensive attack that returns a lot of on the field experience from 2019. A 2019 ASUN first-team all-conference pick, Courtemanche had a breakout season in 2019, finishing second on the team in goals (39), assists (25), and points (64).
The Chanticleers open the season with five-straight road games beginning on Feb. 8 at Old Dominion.
CCU's first home game of 2020 is set for March 15 at 2 p.m. versus Niagara at Brooks Stadium.
