Chanticleers Women’s Lacrosse Set to Open the 2020 Season at Old Dominion on Saturday

Coastal Carolina women’s lacrosse begins conquest for ASUN title on the road

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's lacrosse team opens its 2020 spring season on the road at Old Dominion on Saturday, Feb. 8, in Norfolk, Va. The opening draw is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET.

The Chanticleers hold a 2-1 series advantage in the three meetings between the two teams, having picked up both wins over ODU in the last two seasons.

Last year, CCU finished 12-6 overall and 4-2 in the ASUN and reached the semifinals of the conference tournament. The Monarchs completed their first season in the Big East last year with a 4-13 record and a 1-5 conference mark.

ABOUT COASTAL CAROLINA

Coastal returns the second-leading scorer from last season in Samantha Courtemanche. The senior attacker had a breakout junior campaign with 39 goals and 25 assists for 64 points. Courtemanche will be tasked to replace four-year starter Haley Alexander, the programs all-time leading scorer, who earned the programs first-ever ASUN Player of the Year award in 2019.

Defensively, seniors Emily D'Orsaneo and Megan Kilpatrick will anchor the back line and look to aid first year starting goalkeeper Regan McComb.

The trio of Courtemanche, D'Orsaneo, and Kilpatrick all were tabbed preseason ASUN all-conference, while juniors Avery Drouin and Megan Busch were chosen to the ASUN Players to Watch list for the 2020 season.

Head coach Kristen Selvage named Drouin, Kilpatrick, and senior Lyla Robinson as team captains for the 2020 season.

ABOUT OLD DOMINION

ODU returns preseason All-Big East selection and top scorer senior Glory Johnson (53 goals and 7 assists) along with last year's third-leading scorer sophomore Lilly Siskind (11 goals and 14 assists) to lead the Monarchs offensive attack.

On the defensive side, Old Dominion will have a newcomer in goal in either sophomore transfer Brianna Blatter or true freshman Sabrina Leatherwood.

The Monarchs have tabbed Johnson, Mary Katherine Maloney, and Anna Davis as their captains for the upcoming season.
