Women’s Lacrosse to Move to SoCon Beginning in 2021

Coastal Carolina women’s lacrosse opens up the 2020 slate tomorrow at Old Dominion

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Coastal Carolina women's lacrosse team, who has been an affiliate member within the ASUN Conference since 2017, will participate in the Southern Conference (SoCon) for the 2020-21 and 2021-22 academic years the ASUN, SoCon, and Coastal Carolina University Department of Athletics announced today.

The move by the Chanticleers is to ensure that both the ASUN and the SoCon will have five participating members at the start of next year as part of the extended women's lacrosse partnership between the two conferences through the 2021 and 2022 seasons. The agreement will continue to strengthen both leagues and keep both conferences eligible for an automatic qualifier for the NCAA Championship Tournament despite not having six participants, as NCAA policy provides a two-year waiver for conferences falling below six participants, provided five remain.

The ASUN and SoCon women's lacrosse scheduling agreement will create a balance for both leagues. With an overall membership of 10 members scheduled for the 2020-21 academic year, both the ASUN and the SoCon will sponsor women's lacrosse with five members each. The conferences will play a nine-game schedule for 2020-21 and 2021-22, administered by the follows:
  • Schools will play nine total contests as part of the ASUN/SoCon schedule
  • Schedule will feature five sets of travel pairs
  • Schools will play a single-round robin conference schedule (four conference contests)
  • Schools will play a five-game crossover schedule (five crossover contests)
  • Crossover contests may be canceled only by mutual agreement of sport administrators (AD or SWA) from both schools which must be provided via email to both conference offices.
The Chanticleers open the season with five-straight road games beginning tomorrow, Feb. 8, at Old Dominion.

CCU's first home game of 2020 is set for March 15 at 2 p.m. versus Niagara at Brooks Stadium.
