Men's Soccer Signs 25

CONWAY, S.C. – Coastal Carolina University men's soccer coach Shaun Docking has announced the 2020 signing class. The Chanticleers will have a new look as 25 newcomers have been added to the roster. Among those are 18 freshmen and seven transfers.
 
Tor Saunders has transferred to CCU from Akron where he spent three years in goal for the Zips. He started 18 matches over the course of his career including picking up a clean sheet in a 1-0 victory over eighth-ranked Creighton during 2018. He was a two-time Academic All-MAC performer. He also played with the Seattle Sounders and with Crossfire Premier in club soccer.
 
Another transfer will be Lucian Lang who played his freshman season at Wisconsin-Green Bay. He recorded over 800 minutes on the pitch with nine starts among his 12 matches played.
 
Matt McLaws will have four years of eligibility left after redshirting at SMU last season. He played at Deer Creek High School where he helped lead them to four consecutive Oklahoma State titles. He led the team in goals and assists for three seasons and also played for the OKC Energy PDL.
 
CCU picked up another outstanding transfer in Marcello Jones. In two seasons at Cincinnati, the England native started 28 matches and played over 1,000 minutes on the pitch. He was also named to the UC Dean's List twice and was named a TopCat (4.0 GPA) following his sophomore season.
 
Looking to add some punch to the Chants offense, the coaching staff signed Kazuki Kimura. He transfers to CCU following a standout two-year career at Marshalltown Junior College. He led Marshalltown to a 32-5-4 record during his two years. He scored 30 points (11 goals, 8 assists) during his freshman campaign. He followed that with 11 points on three goals and five assists as a sophomore, in which he only made eight appearances after fighting through injuries for most of the season.
 
He was named to the NJCAA National Championship All-Tournament Team and was a two-time ICCAC All-Region member.
 
Connor Pugh and Pete Arnold are the final two transfers for the 2020 signing class. Pugh comes to CCU from Onondaga Community College where he spent one season, but that was an outstanding freshman season for Pugh as he was named the MSAC Conference Player of the Year.
 
The Dublin, Ireland native scored 42 points on 19 goals and four assists in only 13 matches. He had six game-winners and scored four goals in one match. Pugh was also named the Onondaga Community College Male Rookie of the Year and was a two-time NJCAA Region 3 Male Athlete of the Week to go along with his first-team all-conference honors.
 
Arnold spent his freshman season in goal at Division II Indianapolis. The powerhouse Greyhounds were regional champions and lost to Cal State Los Angeles in the NCAA Division II Final Four finishing the season at 16-6-1.
 
Building on an impressive transfer signing class, the coaching staff brought in a talented slew of first-year Chants led by Gabriel Christensen, Mael Couteau, and Tom Fielding. Christensen hails from Aalborg, Denmark, and has a strong background of international club experience. He played for Aalborg BK 13 and won the regional championship in U14 and U15. He picked up a bronze medal in U17 and was a national silver medalist in U19. In 2018, AaB 13 won the gold medal in the International Baltic Sea Cup. Christensen has also been called up to the Danish Youth National team six times.
 
Couteau, a native of Guyancourt, France, served as team captain at CENS Nantes. CENS won the national championship in U17 and also picked up wins at the International Tournaments of Montaigu and Mer. His background also saw him play club futbol for Stade de Reims for two years where he helped lead the team to the national championship U19. Couteau, most recently played for reserve team soccer, of recent Champions League finalists, Paris Saint Germain.
 
 Fielding also has a solid international background. He hails from Leicester, UK, and played three years for Premier League, Leicester City FC as a youth-scholar, followed by seasons at League One club, Mansfield Town FC. He was one of eight students to receive eight or more A-A grade GCSE's.
 
Esteban Leiva played four years at Mount View High School in San Jose, Costa Rica. He helped lead Mount View to both summer and winter championships in three consecutive years (2016-18) and was named team captain in two of those years.
 
A native of Kochav Yair, Israel, Yochai Kariv has a distinct background before enrolling at CCU to continue his academic and athletic careers. Following high school at Galili, he served three years in the I.D.F. (Israeli Defense Forces) before picking back up with his soccer career. He played two years for the Kfar Sava Seniors futbol club and earned a promotion to Israel's first division.
 
Noah Glorioso signed with the Chants following an honor-filled career at Waubonsie Valley High School. He was twice named the Waubonsie Valley MVP and also picked up the DuPage Valley Conference Sportsmanship Award (2016). Glorioso was named to the 2019 Chicagoland All-State Team and picked up IHSSCA All-Sectional honors in 2018 and 2019.
 
Glorioso played five years for the Galaxy futbol club and helped lead the team to the 2020 USYS National League Blue Division Championship. The Galaxy also picked up the 2018 USYS National U18 Championship and was a Midwest Conference Regional Finalist at USYS Midwest Conference Best XI Team in 2019. He was also a 2019 Generation Adidas Real Madrid USA Select player.
 
Another honor-filled player signing with CCU is Ben Kaindu. The Lexington, Ken., native helped lead his Tates Creek High School team to the 2019 district championship while being named to the 2019 All-State first-team. He was a four-time first-team all-city pick and played in the East-West All-Star game.
 
Ethan Hackenberg and Lucas Hales come to CCU with plenty of club soccer experience. Hackenberg played for Seneca Valley High School in Pittsburgh and also played four years of club soccer with Cleveland Internationals and a year with Villamarchant.
 
Hales is from Winston-Salem, N.C., and played for Reagan High School where he was a National Technical Honor Society member. Hales played five years with the North Carolina Fusion Futbol Club where he started 102 of the 125 matches he played and was named the 2019 NC Fusion Player of the Year.
 
Adriel Sanchez traveled across the nation coming from Coachella Valley, Calif., to play at CCU. He served as the captain at La Quinta High School and was the top scorer in both 2019 and 2020. He also graduated with honors.
 
Sanchez played for Desert United Coachella which was the top-ranked club team in California. He also played at the Barcelona Residential Academy.
 
The coaching staff reached into the talent-rich area of Puebla, Mexico to sign Andres Rivera. He was named Instituto Oriente de Puebla's most improved player while scoring 20 goals his senior season and leading de Puebla to the MIC Tournament.
 
Taylor Cabaniss and Luis Romero both come from Charlotte, N.C., but played at different high schools. Cabaniss played at Olympic High School and spent two of his four seasons as team captain and scored 30 goals with 50 assists during his career. He was named to the all-conference team in 2018 and played in the Powerade State games in 2016 and was captain of the team in 2017.
 
Cabaniss also played for the Mid-City Lions Futbol Club, which was the first American team that made it to the Dubai Cup Finals in 2017. He also played for the O'Neills Foyle Cup in Derry, Ireland with Mid-City.
 
Romero played for Providence where was a two-time all-district, all-conference, and all-state performer. He played club soccer for Charlotte Soccer Academy for 11 years and played in the state championship with CSA.
 
Ben Brucken and Christian Silvano round out the incoming field players. Brucken played at Copley High School in Copley, Ohio. He helped lead Copley to the Suburban League Championship in 2019 while playing for the Sectional Championship in three consecutive seasons (2017-19). He was named the team MVP in 2019 while also picking up first-team all-league honors and second-team all-district honors while leading the team in scoring.
 
Brucken also played one season of tennis at Copley and was a two-time junior sailing champion.
 
Silvano played one year at the University of Chester where he was named the Player of the Year. At Kennesaw Mountain High School, he picked up MVP and Attacker of the Year honors in 2018 and helped lead KMSH to regional championships in 2016 and 2017.
 
He played eight years for the Mid-City Lions Futbol Club, where the team won the IMG College and the O'Neills Foyle Cup Championships.
 
Ben Lado, Jacob Segoria, and Henry Butterworth are all goalkeepers and round out the 2020 signing class. Lado comes to CCU from Baldwinsville, N.Y. where he played for the New York Central Soccer Club from 2010-15. He then spent 2015-19 with the Empire United Developmental Academy.
 
Segoria played for The Woodlands High School in The Woodlands, Texas. He was in goal for The Woodlands for three years and was invited to train with Coach Paul Rogers, the goalkeeper coach for the Houston Dynamo.
 
Butterworth is a South Carolina native, playing for Summerville High School where he served as team captain his senior season. He helped lead Summerville to the 2018 conference championship and was named first-team all-region.
 
He also played for the Charleston Battery for seven years and was in goal when the Battery won the 2018 State Cup.
