CONWAY – Coastal Carolina softball has announced it has a revised schedule for this weekend's Battle at the Beach due to the inclement weather forecast. The Chanticleers will take on Buffalo, Saint Francis, and East Carolina at St. John Stadium on Feb. 20-21.
The tournament was set to start on Friday, Feb. 19, but now Coastal will host eight games in two days, starting on Saturday, Feb. 20 at 10 a.m. ET. The Chanticleers will play two games on Saturday against Buffalo at 3:00 p.m. ET, followed by a matchup versus Saint Francis at 5:30 p.m ET. On Sunday, CCU will closeout the weekend's action on Sunday versus ECU starting with at 2 p.m. ET.

Health and safety protocols for attendance will remain in place to include, but not limited to:
- Admission to home games will be managed by a team list only and no tickets will be sold.
- Face coverings WILL BE required.
- Creation of "buffer" around the field and/or team areas (i.e. dugouts, bullpens).
- When concessions are available, cashless or touchless payment options (when applicable) will be available along with pre-packaged food and beverage options.
- Increased cleaning of high traffic areas during events.
- No printed gameday programs or rosters.
Coastal Carolina University and the Department of Athletics is committed to providing a safe environment for the enjoyment of our patrons that attend our home intercollegiate athletic events. Individuals that disregard health and safety protocols may be asked to leave.
COASTAL IN SEASON OPENERS
- Chants did not play last weekend's Kickin' Chicken Classic due to inclement weather.
- In the 40 years of Coastal Carolina softball, the Chanticleers have amassed a win-loss total of 14-23 in season openers. (With available results)
- Since 2010, the first year of Head Coach Kelley Green's tenure in Conway, CCU has put together a record of 7-4 in openers.
- Kelley Green has led her teams in opening weekends to a 24-23 win-loss record.
WILD WEEKEND FOR BASH AT THE BEACH
- Coastal Carolina will host three teams and eight games over a two-day span (Saturday and Sunday) at St. John Stadium as part of this weekend's Battle at the Beach.
- CCU will play three familiar opponents; East Carolina, Buffalo, and Saint Francis.
- Overall, the Chanticleers are 24-31 versus their four foes this weekend, having gone 18-29 in their long history against East Carolina, 4-1 versus Saint Francis, and 2-1 versus Buffalo all-time.
- The softball history with ECU dates back to 1988. Last season the Chants and Pirates renewed their rivalry after 13 years. On Feb. 8, the Chants knocked off East Carolina behind then-freshman Raelee Brabham's complete game, five strikeout performance. Coastal knocked off ECU by the score of 8-1.
- The Chants and the Red Flash have played five times, with CCU leading the lifetime series, 4-1. This year's CCU seniors played SFU in 2018 (Feb.11) as they took the loss, 4-3.zCoastal Carolina and Buffalo have played three times overall, with CCU leading the series 2-1.
HOME SWEET HOME
- Coastal will enjoy its home field for the first month of the season, as nine of its first 17 games will come at St. John Stadium.
- CCU's pair of road games in the first four weeks of the season are at South Carolina (Feb. 24).
CHANTS PICKED FOURTH IN THE PRESEASON POLL
- Coastal Carolina was picked to finish tied for fourth in the 2021 Sun Belt Conference Coaches' Preseason Poll.
- The Chanticleers garnered 68 points in the annual preseason poll, their highest total in the previous four years since joining the Sun Belt Conference in 2017.
- Seniors Courtney Dean and Makiya Thomas were selected to the preseason 2021 All-Sun Belt Team. It was Dean's third straight selection while going into her second season, Thomas adds her first.
12TH SEASON FOR GREEN
- Head coach Kelley Green is in her 12th season at the helm of the CCU softball squad.
- Over her 11 seasons at Coastal Carolina, she has posted a record of 354-247.
- Under her watch, the Chants have won two Big South regular-season titles and one Big South Tournament championship.
- After moving to the Sun Belt in the 2017 season, Green's squads have posted win-loss record of 33-49 in conference play and 110-80 overall.
