CONWAY - After a week of rest, the Coastal Carolina track and field team returns to the outdoor oval for the first time in two weeks. The Chanticleers will be in action this weekend at the UNF Invitational in Jacksonville, Fla., the site of the 2021 NCAA Track and Field East Preliminaries.
The two-day meet is slated to kick off with the women's discus at 1 p.m. ET on Thursday, April 29, and the men's 4x400 meters will wrap up the meet at 5:45 p.m. ET on Friday, April 30.
Women
Two weeks ago at the Tom Jones Invitational, Melissa Jefferson and Jermaisha Arnold continued to show their abilities in their respective events.
Two weeks ago at the Tom Jones Invitational, the sophomore Jefferson, once again, made her mark in the Chanticleer record book in the 100-meter and the 200-meter races.
In the 100 meters, the Georgetown, S.C., native broke the school record for the third time this season with a time of 11.22 (1.4).
The next day, Jefferson followed behind six Power Five school runners with a seventh-place finish of the 200 meters. The CCU sprinter raced to a personal best at 23.70 (0.4), third all-time in Chanticleer history.
The freshman Arnold also rewrote the school record book at the Tom Jones.
In the 400 meters, the freshman set a school-best time of 52.63, eclipsing the time she set at the Gamecock Invitational on April 10, when she ran 52.91.
Along with Jefferson, the core of freshmen sprinters put together top-10 performances in other sprint events.
Freshman Shani'a Bellamy finished inside the top 10 of the 400-meter hurdles at the Tom Jones as she ran a personal best time (1:02.54) in the event.
The 4x100-meter relay team with Jefferson, Kayla Sweeney, Keniah Wallace, and Mycal Bowser finished with season-best time of 45.14, good for fifth in the event.
Men
Sophomore Dallas Wise made school history for the second time this season at the Tom Jones Invitational as he etched his name atop of the triple jump record list.
Wise jumped to 15.32 meters, good for sixth-place and fifth among collegiate athletes. Earlier this season, the Imro, S.C., native broke the mark of 15.01 meters with 15.12 of his own.
A pair of freshman showed out during the two-day meet.
In the javelin, sophomore Aaron Keeler earned a third-place finish in Gainesville with a mark of 52.22 meters, his fifth top-five finish of the season.
In the men's 400 meters, freshman DeVonte Harris finished inside the top 10 with a seventh-place result and a personal-best time of 21.57 (0.9).
