Coastal visits South Carolina for second time in three weeks
CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina Chanticleer track and field team returns to action on Saturday, April 10, as they travel to the University of South Carolina for the second time in three weeks, this time for the Gamecock Invitational.
Last week at home during the Chanticleer Challenge, Coastal Carolina's team picked up a meet-high 11 event wins.
WOMEN
Melissa Jefferson led the women during the Chanticleer Challenge with three event wins. The sophomore added wins in the 100 meters, 200 meters, and the 4x100-meter relay race.
It was the second time this season the CCU sprinter has added victories in the 100 and 200-meter races and the first time this season she has helped secure a win in the 4x100 for Coastal Carolina.
Amaryah White chipped in two wins last weekend as she took first place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.14. Later in the afternoon, the Elgin, S.C., native ran the first leg of the 4x400 as she helped her team knock off 14 seconds for a new season-best time of 1:00.90.
Fellow Chant, Shani'a Bellamy also earned two event wins at the Chanticleer Challenge. The freshman ran the third leg of the 4x400 meters and earned a win in the 100-meter hurdles. The sprinter finished the hurdle race with a time of 14.39 (-1.7).
MEN
David Ejumeta added his third win of the season in the long jump during the Chanticleer Challenge. The senior took first place in the day's event with a mark of 7.51 meters (2.5).
Fellow jumper Dallas Wise earned his third win of the season in the high jump with a mark of 2.06 meters, his second-best tally this year.
Sprinter Braydon Bennett earned his second 110-meter hurdles victory of the season on the teal track. The freshman earned the win as he crossed the finish line with a time of 14.35 (0.6).
The Gamecock Invitational will kick off on Saturday at 9 a.m. ET with the women's hammer throw and will conclude that afternoon at 5:30 p.m. ET with the men's 4x400-relay race.
