Track and Field Has Eyes Set on 2021 Sun Belt Track & Field Championships

CCU has 34 individuals ranked in the top 10 of the SBC in 15 events this season
CONWAY, S.C. - The Coastal Carolina track and field team enters this week's 2021 Sun Belt Track and Field Championships, Mobile, Ala., with 34 individuals ranked in the top 10 of 15 events of the conference.
CCU and the rest of the Sun Belt Conference will kickoff the meet on Wednesday, May 13 at 10:00 a.m. ET at the Jaguar Track.
WOMEN
Melissa Jefferson, Jermaisha Arnold, Amaryah White, Kayla Sweeney, and Shani'a Bellamy all have notched their names in the top 10 of multiple SBC events during the outdoor season.
In the 100 meters, Jefferson set the gold standard time of the SBC this season during the Tom Jones Invitational when she set the school record 11.22 (1.4). The freshman Arnold set the fifth-best time, 11.74 (1.8), at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational in April.
The previously mentioned duo also lead a group of four individuals in the 200 meters. Jefferson leads the Chants and is second in the conference with a time of 23.70 (0.4). White follows behind, ranked in sixth with a time of 24.00 (2.1). Arnold ran 24.01 (2.2) at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invite, which is good for the seventh-best time in the SBC. Sweeney ran a personal best, 24.12 (0.2) at the UNF Invitational that puts her ninth in the conference.
Jefferson, Sweeney, Arnold, and Keniah Wallace have put together the Chanticleers' best time in the 4x100 event this season at the UNF Invitational and the second-best time (44.84) in the conference.
In the 4x400, the freshmen foursome of White, Arnold, Bellamy, and Lauren Gordon earned the second-best time during the Sun Belt outdoor season when they ran 3:41.34 at the Chanticleer Challenge on April 3.
Arnold and White are first and third-ranked sprinters, respectively, in the Sun Belt rankings of the 400 meters. Arnold ran a personal-best and school record 52.63 while also tracked a personal-best 54.15 at the Tom Jones Invitational in mid-April.
Bellamy has her name in the top 10 of both hurdles events this season. In the 100-meter hurdles, the Columbia, S.C., native ran 13.74 (2.6) at the Gamecock Invitational, good for sixth in the rankings. In the 400-meter hurdles, Bellamy has the best time in the Sun Belt, 59.50, set at the UNF Invite.
Kayla Ulmer is the lone CCU women's athlete in the top 10 of any field event. Ulmer earned herself the sixth-best mark in the conference at the Gamecock Invitational, where she reached a season-best mark in the triple jump, 12.22 meters (2.1).
MEN
Dallas Wise, Jeremiah Talbert, DeVonte Harris, and Braydon Bennett have their names on the Sun Belt top 10 lists in seven separate events.
Talbert goes into the track and field championships as the seventh-ranked 400-meter sprinter with a time of 47.69.
Along with Talbert, Harris, Ty Floyd, and Brendan Kovar are the second-best 4x400-meter team in the conference with a time of 3:10.80, which they set at the UNF Invitational.
In the 4x100 meters, Turner, Harris, Bennett, and Kaden Turner ran 40.27 at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational, good for the fourth-best in the Sun Belt.
The Greenville, S.C., native, Bennett, hurdled his way to the second-best time of the 110-meter hurdles. At the Gamecock Invitational on April 10, the freshman ran 13.92 (1.3).
Fellow hurdler Tyler Graves started the year strong as he ran 14.12 (3.3) at the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge, which stands as the fifth-best time in the conference this season.
The sophomore Wise is in the top 10 of three field events, including the high jump, long jump, and triple jump.
In the high jump, Wise achieved the height of 2.08 meters, good for seventh-best in the Sun Belt and the third-mark in the triple jump with a mark of 15.37 meters (2.1)
Wise and fellow Chanticleer David Ejumeta put their names atop in the long jump competition. Ejumeta leads the Chants and ranks third in the SBC with 7.63 meters (1.7) while Wise fifth with a mark of 7.52. (0.3), good for a fifth-place ranking.
