10 Chants Named to All-Southern Conference Teams

Coastal Carolina women’s lacrosse earn first All-Southern Conference awards
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's lacrosse team had 10 members named to the 2021 All-Southern Conference teams announced by the league's office on Tuesday afternoon. The Chanticleers finished with four players on the first team while five Chants earned a spot on the second team and two were named to the all-freshman team.
Highlighting the first team was Samantha Courtemanche who earned her second first-team all-conference honor by leading the team in scoring with 71 points on 38 goals and 33 assists. Joining the Ellicott City, Md. native on the first team were defenders Emily D'Orsaneo, Anya McSorley, and goalkeeper Claire Martell.
D'Orsaneo recorded 35 ground balls while having caused 21 turnovers and finished her career picking up all-conference accolades every year she competed while teammate McSorley tallied 28 caused turnovers and scooped up 32 ground balls to earn her first conference award. In her first collegiate action, redshirt freshman Martell led the SoCon in four goalkeeping categories to earn her first all-conference award. The Verbank, N.Y. goalkeeper, led the conference in goals-against average (10.39), ground balls per game (2.56), save percentage (0.457), and saves (139). She also ranks eighth nationally in saves on the year.
The Chanticleers had a strong showing on the second team as Lauren Cremen, Kayla Downey, Abbey Buchanan, Avery Drouin, and Sarah Trupp were selected. Cremen, Downey, and Buchanan were second, third, and sixth in points for Coastal with 61, 31, and 21 points, respectively, while Drouin helped get the offense started by winning 23 draw controls good enough for third on the team. A vital cog on defense, Trupp helped to anchor the defense by causing 17 turnovers while she scooped 28 ground balls.
The All-Southern Conference Freshman Team saw Downey and Avery Snyder tabbed for their efforts in a Chanticleer uniform. Downey was second on the team with 33 goals and 28 assists while Snyder tallied 16 goals and six assists for 22 points.
