BOONE, N.C. – Sophomore
Molly Jones recorded a 12th place finish at the Covered Bridge Open on Friday evening to highlight the opening meet for the Coastal Carolina men's and women's cross country teams.
Atlantic Coast Conference's Florida State won both the men's and women's events as host Appalachian State finished in second place in both races.
On a night where seven of the Chanticleers competing in the women's 5k event recorded personal records, the Chants as a team tallied 199 points. Jones posted a personal record navigating the Don Kennedy Trails in 17:52.16 while juniors
Meagan Moreno and
Ashley Rulison followed with times of 34th and 41st with 18:36.02 and 18:50.10, respectively.
Newcomers
Amilia Wise-Sweat and
Ashley Dalleske closed out the scoring for CCU in 58th and 78th with their times of 19:38.56 and 20:08.55 while
Jessica Martin and
Mia Sheldon finished in 89th and 114th with marks of 20:21.51 and 21:35.84, respectively.
On the men's side, freshman
Garrett Bivens was the top Chanticleer in 57th place while junior
Monroe Thompkins and freshman
Jack Benoit placed 85th and 129th, respectively. Like their teammates on the women's team, all three men finished with their best times - Bivens (27:05.87), Thompkins (28:11.10), and Benoit (31:16.00).
The Chanticleers will return to action on Sept. 24 at the Royals XC Challenge in Charlotte, N.C.
