Coastal Falls to Maryland Saturday Afternoon

CONWAY, S.C. – On day three of the Chanticleer Showdown, the Coastal Carolina softball team (7-6) suffered its first loss of the weekend, as the Chants fell to the Maryland Terrapins 5-2 on Saturday afternoon.
After walking the first batter, Kaitlin Beasley-Polko sat down the next six batters while recording three strikeouts.
In the top of the third inning, Mackense Greico's single up the middle drove in two fellow Terrapins and put the visitors up 2-0. Maryland added three more runs in the top of the fourth inning, started by a solo home run to left field, and ended the inning up 5-0.
Madison Jennings' single to right field started the offensive efforts for Coastal in the bottom of the fifth inning. Jay Wrightsman grounded out to the pitcher, but advanced Jennings to second. Peyton Ebersole continued her hitting streak with a single down the right-field line to drive home Jennings to earn the Chants' first run of the afternoon to make the score 5-1.
In the home half of the sixth inning, Abbey Montoya hit her fifth home run of the season deep into center field and through the palm trees to make the score 5-2.
In the circle, Beasley-Polko (3-2) dropped her second contest of the season allowing two runs and two hits, while also notching three strikeouts.
Jennings led the offense for the Chants, going 2-for-3 with one run.
Coastal Carolina will face North Carolina A&T on the final day of the Chanticleer Showdown at 1:30 p.m. ET on Sunday.
