CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina beach volleyball team split its pair of matches on day one of the CofC Classic hosted by the College of Charleston, as the Sandy Chants suffered a 3-2 loss to FGCU, before blanking Morehead State 5-0 on Saturday.

With the split, the Chants moved to 9-4 overall on the season.
 
FGCU 3, Coastal Carolina 2 

In the first match of the weekend event, the Chants earned wins from the No. 3 pair of Ellie Hanford and Natalie Honzovicova and No. 4 team of Emma Gonzalez and Kalin Eske but fell in the other three bouts.

Hanford and Honzovicova swept the pair of Trinity Rosales and Shelby Beisner by a similar score of 21-18, while Gonzalez and Eske picked up a three-set victory over Emma Hansen and Kaitlyn Luebbers by a score of 21-23, 22-20, 17-15.

The Eagles would pick up wins on courts 1, 2, and 4 to secure the victory and put the final tally at 3-2. However, it wasn't easy, as the Chants forced three sets at flights No. 1 and 2 to keep the match tight throughout.
 
Coastal Carolina 5, Morehead State 0 

Following a setback to begin the day, the Chants stormed back in the afternoon and secured a 5-0 sweep over Morehead State.

Coastal raced out to a 2-0 lead in the match with straight-set wins from Gonzalez and Eske on court No. 4 (21-15, 21-9) and the pair of Raychel Ehlers and Carli Ginther on court No. 5 (21-8, 21-14).

The wins would continue across the other three matches, as well as the exhibition match, as the Sandy Chants dropped just one set for the entire match.

The duo of Hanford and Honzovicova continued their winning ways with a 21-15, 21-15 win over the pair of Olivia Montelisciani and Bella Williams on court No.3, while the pair of Irena Drobnjak and Madie Lichty teamed up to win by the identical score of 21-15, 21-15 on court No. 2 over Anya Reinhard and Trinity Miller.

The top flight of Martine Kragholm and Sarah Riedell earned a hard-fought three-set win over Allison Whitten and Olivia Lohmeier, coming back from a second-set loss to win 25-23, 14-21, 15-13 to give the Chants their fourth sweep of the year.

Coastal will wrap up the CofC Classic tomorrow with a pair of matches. The Chants will take on Jacksonville at 8 a.m. ET and then face off with Eastern Kentucky at 3 p.m. ET.
