Chanticleers to Participate in Weems Baskin Meet

CONWAY, S.C. – Following a strong showing at last weekend's Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational, the Coastal Carolina men's and women's track & field programs will make the trek up to Columbia, S.C., for the highly-touted Weems Baskin meet.

Both teams earned first place overall finishes and several individuals earned trips to the winner's circle. On the women's side, Shani'a Bellamy tallied a trio of first-place finishes in three events last Saturday, picking up victories in the 100-meters, 100-meter hurdles, and 200-meter events.

Bellamy also set personal bests in the 100-meters (11.61) and 100-meter hurdles (13.84), while Jermaisha Arnold claimed the top spot on the podium in the 400-meter event with a time of 55.02.

Kynnedy Dennis claimed the top spot in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 3.50 meters.

On the men's side, David Ejumeta found the winner's circle for the second time in as many weeks in the long jump with a mark of 7.23 meters, while Jake Heydon won the men's javelin throw with a toss of 66.74 meters.

On the track, Jerardo Perez claimed the top spot in the one-mile run open with a time of 4:35.11 and Jack Benoit earned the top spot on the podium in the 800-meters open with his time of 1:57.41.

Tyler Graves crossed the line first in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.78, while Garrett Wilkins' time of 10.38 earned first-place honors in the 100-meter event.

Four relay teams finished inside the top three during the respective events. The 4x100-meter relay tallied a first-place finish (45.91), while the 4x200 (1:39.49) and 4x400 (3:50.94) finished second and the 4x800 finished third with a time of (9:45.27).
