COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina men's and women's track & field programs got off to good starts at the Weems Baskin Invitational on Friday in Columbia, S.C.
In the women's 100-meter dash, Mekenze Kelly and
Alexis Glasco swept the top two spots on the podium, as Kelly crossed the line first in 11.93 seconds, followed by Glasco in 12.20. Two more Chants in
Lauren Gordon and Amelia Cametto came home eighth (12.43) and 10th (12.50) in the event, respectively.
Cametto also notched a fourth-place finish (57.53) in the 400-meter dash, while
Nya McGowan earned a ninth-place finish (58.91).
Molly Jones hit the line first in the 5000-meter event with a time of 17:22.21, while
Meagan Moreno earned a spot on the podium with a third-place finish (17:53.49) in the distance event.
In the hammer throw,
Zayna Fray-Samuel tallied a third-place finish with a throw of 49.12 meters, while fellow freshman
Lauralyn Clifford notched a sixth-place finish with a throw of 46.84 meters.
On the men's side, Devonte Harris set the tone and earned the top spot in the 100-meter dash by crossing the line in a blistering 10.60 seconds, while
Keshon Sapp came home ninth with a time of 11.04.
Ethan Blackwelder earned top 10 honors in the 3000-meter steeplechase, as his time of 10:14.16 notched a seventh-place finish.
David Ejumeta finished fifth in the long jump with a leap of 7.22 meters.
Michael Martello and
Major Chestnut finished 15th and 16th, respectively, in the hammer throw with tosses of 39.24 and 37.93 meters. Fellow Chants
Aaron Pierce placed seventh in the javelin throw with a toss of 54.31 meters.
The 4x800-meter relay team of
Garrett Bivens,
Tomas Duncan,
Jack Benoit, and
Gage Nielsen earned a fifth-place spot with their time of 8:09.54.
