Men's Golf Finishes 10th at Desert Mountain Classic

Set Taylor finishes among the top-10 with an eighth-place finish

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – The Coastal Carolina University men's golf team shot a 12-over 300 in Sunday's final action of the Desert Mountain Collegiate to finish 10th at 32-over 896 (291-305-300).
 
The day started with each team on the course early to complete the second round of play after the round had been suspended on Saturday due to the darkness.
 
Seth Taylor had a top-10 performance, finishing eighth with a one-over 217 (70-72-75) to lead the Chanticleers in the event. Garrett Cooper carded a two-over 74 in Sunday's action. He finished tied for 34th with a nine-over 225 (73-78-74).
 
Conner Newton tied for 64th following his 15-over 231 (71-80-80)), and Tyler Gray tied for 70th after his 17-over 233 (77-75-81).
 
Trey Crenshaw had the low round of the third round for CCU, shooting a one-under 71. He had two birdies and one bogey in his under-par finish. He finished the event tied for 72nd with an 18-over 234 (80-83-71). Luke Nelson had a team-high four birdies in the third round for CCU, and completed the event tied for with Crenshaw at 72nd with a 18-over 234 (72-79-82).
 
The windy conditions made it hard on all 16 teams, as none of the teams finished the event under-par. Host Michigan did make a late push to win its' event with a nine-over 873. In a tight field, UAB and Little Rock finished second just four shots back at 13-over 877). Nebraska was fourth with a 15-over 879, and Mississippi State finished fifth with a 16-over 880.
 
UTEP and Southern Illinois finished tied for sixth after each team shot a 21-over 885. Arkansas State was one shot back at 22-over 886 and ULM was one shot back of the Red Wolves with a 23-over 887.
 
Following the Chanticleers were South Dakota State and Santa Clara tied for 11th at 37-over 901, with Lipscomb (+42, 906), Northern Illinois (+43, 907), Grand Canyon (+44, 908), and Michigan's "B" team (+72, 036) rounding out the field.
 
CCU will be back in action when the Chants host the General Hackler Championship March 13-14, at the Dunes Golf and Beach Club in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
