JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – On Friday, the Coastal Carolina men's and women's track & field teams began competition at the University of North Florida Invitational, where several personal bests were posted.
On the women's side,
Kynnedy Dennis turned in a second-place finish in the pole vault event, clearing the bar at 3.75 meters, while both
Alexis Estep and
Lauralyn Clifford each notched a top 15 finish in the shot put with tosses of 13.23 and 12.81 meters, respectively, where Clifford's throw was a new personal best. Clifford also finished 11th in the hammer throw with a mark of 44.99 meters.
In the 400-meter hurdles,
Shani'a Bellamy earned a spot on the podium with a third-place finish with her time of 58.04.
Alyssa Smith set a new personal best in the event with a time of 1:05.48.
Mekenze Kelley finished sixth in the 200-meters with a time of 23.66, which became the fifth-best time in program history for the event. Kelly, along with
Amaryah White (24.55),
Mariah McCord (24.78), and
Sydney Clemens (25.00) all set new personal bests during the 200-meters event.
Meagan Moreno brought home a fifth-place finish in the 5000-meters event and also notched a new personal best with a time of 17:18.60, while fellow freshman
Molly Jones crossed the finish line in seventh overall with a time of 4:35.34 in the 1500-meters.
On the men's side,
Michael Martello picked up a seventh-place finish in the hammer throw with a new personal best toss of 43.37 meters, while
Stephen Kirkwood (13.30M) and
Aaron Pierce (12.74M) finished seventh and ninth, respectively, in the shot put.
Garrett Bivens finished 10th in the 5000-meters and etched his name in the Coastal Carolina record book with a new personal time of 14:46.69, which is the 10th-best in program history.
