Women’s Lacrosse to Visit Delaware State and No. 22 Johns Hopkins

Chanticleers will return home for three-straight contests

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's lacrosse team will return to the road this weekend with back-to-back games against the Delaware State Hornets (Saturday, April 9) and the No. 22 nationally-ranked Johns Hopkins Blue Jays (Sunday, April 10). The opening draw against ASUN member Delaware State is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. ET, while the opening draw against the Blue Jays is slated for noon ET.
 
The Chanticleers are 4-6 on the year and 0-1 in the ASUN, having dropped their last contest against the No. 23 nationally-ranked Jacksonville Dolphins last Friday at Brooks Stadium.
 
The Hornets enter play with a 1-9 record and 0-1 mark in league play, including a conference-opening matchup with RV Liberty, while Johns Hopkins enters play with a 7-6 mark after an 11-10 overtime midweek victory over in-state foe Towson.
 
COASTAL vs. DELAWARE STATE HISTORY
 
Saturday's contest will be the fourth meeting between the two teams with Coastal having a 3-0 advantage in the overall series. The last time the ASUN Conference foes met was March 29, 2018, with the Chants winning big, 26-1, which at the time set the record for most goals scored by a Chanticleer team.
 
COASTAL vs. JOHNS HOPKINS HISTORY
 
Sunday's game at Johns Hopkins will be the first-ever meeting between the two teams. However, Coastal played a neutral site contest at Homewood Field against Lehigh earlier this season.
 
ABOUT COASTAL
 
The Chants' scoring attack is led by Lauren Cremen (18 goals), Kayla Downey (13 goals), Avery McIlwaine (12 goals), and Megan Bozzi (12 goals), while Abi George has added 10 goals. Hannah Demis and Downey are the top two assist leaders for the Chants with 15 and 14 assists, respectively, while three Chants in Avery Snyder (25), McIlwaine (21), and Abby Cooper (17) have combined for 63-of-130 draw controls to start the offensive attack.
 
Defensively, Coastal goalkeeper Claire Martell has faced 266 shots and made 91 saves on the season, while Marissa Munson has caused 11 turnovers, with Claudia Kelly and Avery Whitehead chipping in with nine and seven caused turnovers, respectively. Martell (20), Munson (13), and Kelly (12) have scooped up 45-of-132 ground balls so far this season.
 
ABOUT DELAWARE STATE
 
Delaware State is led by Emmy McGill with 12 goals and Rossella Nardi with 11 scores. The Hornets' trio of Nardi, India Rosiere, and Saniya Craft are leading the team with three assists, with McGill, Mica Lambert, and Brianne Johanson adding two assists apiece on the season. Craft and Caitlyn Wilson get the offense started having won 13 and 11 draw controls, respectively.
 
On the defensive end, Moe Brown has seen the bulk of the action in all 10 matches between the pipes and has made 77 saves while facing 240 shots. Wilson has helped stop the opponents' offense from scoring by causing 11 turnovers each, while Wilson (14), Rosiere (12), Craft (12), McGill (12), and Brown (10) have grabbed a combined 60-of-153 ground balls.
 
ABOUT JOHNS HOPKINS
 
Johns Hopkins is led offensively by Shelby Harrison with 29 goals, while Madison McPherson and Maeve Barker each have added 23 and 14 goals, respectively. The Blue Jays' Georgia Esmond and Barker are leading the team with 19 and 10 assists, respectively.
 
On the defensive end, Kathleen Garvey has started all 13 matches between the pipes and has made 108 saves while facing 337 shots. Jeanne Kachris (22), Annika Meyer (16), Keegan Barger (13), and Cameron Levine (13) have helped stop the opponents' offense from scoring by causing a combined 64-of-122 turnovers each, while Meyer (26), Kachris (23), and Barger (22) have grabbed a combined 71 ground balls.
