Thomas Picks Up NFCA All-Region Honors

LOUISVILLE, KY. – Coastal Carolina softball graduate student Makiya Thomas has been named second-team All-Central Region by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) on Thursday afternoon.
The Tacoma, Wash. native, is the first NFCA All-Region selection for the Chanticleers since Courtney Dean's selection in 2018.
Thomas was previously named All-Sun Belt first team. She appeared in and started 44 games of Coastal Carolina's 54 games this season, hitting a team-leading .419 overall with 12 doubles, six home runs, 17 RBI, and 36 runs scored. In SBC play, her batting average improved to .421 with five of her six home runs coming against league opponents.
The graduate student led the Chanticleers in batting average, slugging percentage (.742), on-base percentage (.488), hits (57), runs scored (36), stolen bases (14), and stolen base attempts (18). She was also in the top five on the team in doubles (12), total bases (87), walks (17), and stolen base percentage (.786). Notably, she recorded 14 multi-hit games with three multi-RBI games and hit safely in 27 of 35 games this season, including hitting streaks of five and nine games.
The center fielder finished the regular season and ranked in the top 10 in Sun Belt Conference in batting average (.419), OPS (1.130), hits (57), on-base percentage (.490), and stolen bases (14).
