Chanticleers Wrap-Up 2022 Regular Season Versus App State

Softball to honor its seniors on May 6

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina softball team returns to St. John Stadium and will host its final home series of the 2022 season in a Sun Belt Conference series against App State, May 5-6. 
 
SERIES SCHEDULE
Thursday, May 5
 Game 1 – 2:00 p.m. ET
 Game 2 – Approx. 4:30 p.m. ET
 
Friday, May 6 (Senior Day)
 Game 3 – 1:00 p.m. ET

CHANTS LAST TIME OUT
Coastal enters the weekend 18-27 overall and 4-17 in SBC after dropping three contests to (RV) Louisiana last weekend. 
 
Friday saw the Chants fall 6-0 to the Ragin' Cajuns. The two teams met up for a Saturday doubleheader because of travel accommodations for the Chanticleers. Game one saw Coastal take an early 1-0 lead but ultimately fell 3-6. Game two would have much of the same momentum for the Chants this time around as Coastal took an early 3-0 lead but fell 3-7.
 
At the plate, Makiya Thomas led the Chanticleers with a .455 average in 11 at-bats. The Tacoma, Wash. native recorded five hits, two RBI, two runs, one double, and one home run against (RV) Louisiana on the road. Riley Zana was second batting .400 against the Ragin' Cajuns in 10 at-bats, with four hits, two RBI, and one home run. 
 
MOUNTAINEERS LAST TIME OUT
App State enters the series 29-21 overall and 10-12 in conference play after a series win over UT Arlington on April 29-30. 
 
The Mountaineers used a pair of seven-run performances on Friday, to record the series victory. App State took both games of Friday's doubleheader, winning the series opener 7-6 before taking the nightcap by a final score of 7-2. App State came from behind in both of their victories as the rallies in both contests were highlighted by a two-run blast from Mary Pierce Barnes.
 
SERIES HISTORY
Coastal holds a 17-7 advantage over App State in the series, and is currently on a two-game win streak over the Mountaineers. 
 
The first meeting between the two teams took place on March 12, 2002 – a 3-2 Chanticleer victory while most recently Coastal took both games of a Sun Belt Conference doubleheader on May 7, 2021. The Chants' defeated the Mountaineers by a combined score of 20-3 in both contests.
 
SENIOR DAY
Prior to the first pitch on Friday, Chanticleers will honor the careers of Shae Schreckengost, Makiya Thomas, Abbey Montoyaand Kaitlin Beasley-Polko

HOME RUN CLINIC
The Chanticleers have hit 60 total home runs, which ranks them second in the Sun Belt, while opponents have hit 37. So far this season, 11 different Coastal players have hit home runs. Iyanla De Jesus and Riley Zana each have a team-leading nine. 
  
Keirstin Roose is close behind, having recorded eight homers. Maddy Jennings has knocked seven out of the park, while Abbey Montoya and Thomas have each tallied six. Payton Ebersole (5). Madison Hudson (4), Jay Wrightsman (3), Abby Jankay (2), and Shae Schreckengost (1) have also contributed to Coastal's home run tally.
