Chants Have 10 Earn ASUN Postseason Honors

Coastal Carolina women’s lacrosse set to play No. 20 Jacksonville on Thursday
ATLANTA, Ga. – The Coastal Carolina women's lacrosse team had 10 members named to the 2022 ASUN All-Conference and All-Academic teams announced by the league's office on Wednesday afternoon. The Chanticleers finished with six players on the all-conference second team, while a pair of freshmen earned a spot on the all-freshman team. A trio of Chants with perfect 4.0 grade point averages earned all-academic honors.
Coastal's Claire Martell, Avery Whitehead, Avery McIlwaine, Megan Bozzi, Lauren Cremen, and Kayla Downey were selected to the second team.
Martell faced 421 shots while stopping an ASUN Conference-leading 135 shots and averaged 8.44 saves per game. The redshirt sophomore goalie registered double-digit saves in six contests on the season, including a season-high 13 stops at Richmond on March 5 and at Vanderbilt on March 27. Whitehead played in and started all 16 games for the Chants in her only season at the beach. She led the Chants with 12 caused turnovers while guarding the top offensive player of the opposing team and picked up 17 ground balls on the season.
Cremen led Coastal Carolina with 31 goals on the year including 10 multiple-goal games and a season-high four goals twice. Downey finished as the top point scorer for the Chanticleers tallying 43 points on 25 goals and 18 assists with a career-high six goals in the season finale against Stetson. Bozzi finished fourth on the team in points scored with 33 points on 19 goals and 14 assists, including scoring multiple goals five times with a season-high four goals against William & Mary on March 16.
A pair of newcomers in Devin Rybacki and Tess Gray earned spots on the all-freshman team. Rybacki appeared in all 16 games for the Chanticleers totaling nine goals and three assists. The midfielder from Cherry Hill, N.J., recorded two game-winning goals in back-to-back wins against William & Mary and Winthrop on March 16 and 18. Gray saw action in 14 contests on the CCU defense earning a start in the matchup against Winthrop on March 18. The Bethlehem, Pa. native scooped seven ground balls while causing nine turnovers and winning four draw controls.
Bozzi, a Recreation and Sport Management major, Claudia Kelly, a Finance and Economics major, and Monica Manley, a Biology major, were named to the ASUN All-Academic team for their accomplishments on the field and classroom.
