Women’s Soccer Concludes Season Versus JMU

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team will conclude its 2023 season on the road versus the James Madison Dukes on Oct. 26. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. ET.
 
Chant Talk
  • CCU has a 3-11-2, 0-7-2 Sun Belt record this year.
  • CCU's previous match against Marshall was the third time that the Chants have outshot their opponent and the second time that they have given up a penalty kick.
  • The Chants have suffered a pair of 1-0 losses in their last two matches and hold a 2-6-0 record in one-goal games.
  • The Dukes were picked first in the preseason Sun Belt Conference poll but currently sit in seventh place.
 Last Time Out
  • The CCU dealt with a 1-0 defeat to the Marshall Thundering Herd on Oct. 22.
  • The Chants were the aggressors the whole match leading 4-3 in shots after the first period and 11-8 in shots at full time.
  • The Marshall goalkeeper made a huge save in the 70th minute when she pushed Lou Martinet's shot onto the crossbar to deny the Chants their first goal.
  • With just 10 minutes left to play Marshall was awarded a penalty kick and Bailey Fisher buried it into the top corner to give the Thundering Herd the win.
  • Martinet led the field with four shots, two of which hit the mark.
 Scouting the Opponent
  • JMU has a 6-3-8, 3-1-5 Sun Belt record.
  • The last win for the Dukes was back on Sept. 30 when they shutout Louisiana 4-0.
  • Suwaibatu Mohammed helps to control the JMU offense and has scored five goals while recording five assists on the season. Mohammed was also named the Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 3.
  • The Dukes are solid on their backline allowing just 14 goals all season. Defender Soleil Flores plays a big part as the sophomore was named to the TopDrawerSoccer Women's National Team of the Week on Sept. 12.
  • JMU has played two ranked opponents in No. 8 Santa Clara and No. 13 Georgetown which resulted in a loss and a tie, respectively.
 History Against
  • CCU has a 0-1-0 record versus the Dukes.
  • JMU took a 1-0 win in its only matchup with the Chants on Sept. 26, 2022.
  • Coastal will travel to Harrisonburg, Va., for its first away encounter with the Dukes.
  • This is JMU's second year in the Sun Belt after moving from the CAA in July 2022.
