CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina softball team will return to St. John Stadium this weekend as they host the Battle at the Beach, Feb. 17-19. The Chanticleers welcome Drexel, Colgate, and East Carolina in this weekend's action.

CCU will open the tournament against Drexel on Friday at 3:30 p.m. ET.

Keep it Rolling

• Coastal Carolina got off to an excellent start to the season going 4-0 on Opening Weekend to extend its season opener record to 19-25.
• The Chants scored 26 runs and recorded six doubles, one triple, three home runs, and 25 RBIs over the course of the weekend.
• This is the first time in Coastal's history that the Chanticleers have won the first four games of the season.

Battle at the Beach

• Coastal Carolina will host the second of four home tournaments at St. John Stadium this weekend, Feb. 17-19.
• This marks the eighth year that Coastal has hosted the Battle at the Beach event.
• The Chanticleers have a 29-10 record overall at the Battle at the Beach events.

Scouting the Opponents

East Carolina

• This is East Carolina's second appearance at the Battle of the Beach, with its first coming in 2021.
• East Carolina is sitting on a 3-2 record with both losses coming against No.11 Virginia Tech.
• Graduate student Taylor Edwards recorded a .500 batting average, scored seven runs, and drove in one RBI in her first weekend of action for the Pirates.

Colgate

• The Colgate Raiders enter the weekend with a 2-3 overall record with wins coming against Minnesota and Butler.
• Junior Kara Fusco leads the team with a .429 batting average, driving in four RBIs, and scoring four runs on the 2023 season so far.

Drexel

• This is Drexel's first fixture of the 2023 season.

History Against

• The Chanticleers have only faced Drexel one time in their history back in 2013 when they took an 8-0 win.
• The Coastal Carolina softball team has a 3-0 record versus Colgate; however, it has been 28 years since the last encounter.
• The East Carolina Pirates are the lone school that CCU has a losing record against, but the Chanticleers have won six of the last 10 match-ups.
• The Chants last faced the Pirates at the Kickin' Chicken Classic in 2022 where they cruised to a 10-4 victory. Shortstop Abbey Montoya lead the offensive scoring with three runs and drove in two RBIs, while pitcher Nicolette Picone recorded the win by recording four strikeouts in 5.2 innings of work.
