Women’s Lacrosse to Host Davidson on Sunday Afternoon

Chants continue the season-opening homestand

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's lacrosse team will host the Davidson Wildcats on Sunday Feb. 19, at Brooks Stadium on the campus of Coastal Carolina University. The opening draw is scheduled for noon ET in Conway, S.C.
 
Coastal enters the week 1-0 after defeating Presbyterian 20-3 in its season-opener last Sunday, while the Wildcats enter play 1-1 on the year.
 
COASTAL vs. DAVIDSON HISTORY
 
The Chanticleers and Davidson will be meeting for the fifth time in a series that began in March 2013. Coastal trails in the all-time series 3-1, after falling 13-8 on the road last season.
 
ABOUT COASTAL
 
The CCU offense is led by newcomer Hope Steuerwald (4 goals) and returner Brigid Cardillo (2 goals, 2 assists) with four points each, while Gabrielle Beckett has added three points on one goal and two assists. The top returners from 2022 Kayla Downey and Avery McIlwaine are tied for third on the team with two goals for two points, along with returners Riley Glackin (2 goals), Devin Rybacki (2 goals), and Brooke Gottlieb (1 goal, 1 assist).
 
The offense is ignited by McIlwaine and Rybacki, as the duo have won six and five draw controls, respectively.
 
Defensively, the Chants are anchored by their starting goalkeeper Claire Martell, who allowed just two goals and stopped four shots in 30 minutes between the pipes in the season-opening win. Backup goalkeepers Charlotte Sadler and Kennedy Manning both saw action in the second half versus PC with both making one save. Claudia Kelly forced two turnovers and grabbed two ground balls to help get possession back to the offense.
 
ABOUT DAVIDSON
 
The Wildcats are led by Julianne Cary (6 goals, 2 assists) and Erin Cooke (3 goals, 5 assists) with eight points each, while Riley Cochrane has added seven points all on goals. Carey often gets the offense started by winning 13 of the 30 Wildcats' draw controls to lead the team.
 
Defensively, Amanda Monahan has made 17 saves while facing 73 shots in goal for Davidson. Margaret Anne Warner and Riley Moore have caused five and four turnovers, with Warner leading the Wildcats with five groundballs while the trio of  Monahan, Brynn Jones, and Sophia Passalaqua having scooped up three groundballs each.
