Chanticleers will turn around to take on PC on Monday
CLEMSON, S.C. – Playing its second road match in three days, the Coastal Carolina women's team was shutout 7-0 in a non-conference contest at Clemson on Sunday afternoon in Clemson, S.C.
The loss dropped Coastal to 0-4 on the season, while Clemson moved to 10-1 on the year with the win.
The Tigers took the doubles point with a 6-3 win on court No. 1 and a 6-0 victory on court No. 2 to take an early 1-0 match lead.
Coastal's team of Jesse Hollins and Victoire De Samucewicz were tied at 4-4 with Clemson's Sophia Hatton and Daniella Medvedeva on court No. 3 when the doubles point was decided.
In singles play, the Tigers swept the Chants to pick up the 7-0 match win.
CCU's Megan Hopton pushed CU's Jenna Thompson to the brink on court No. 3, winning the second set 6-3 before falling in three sets 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.
The other two close matches on the day came at the No. 1 and 4 flights.
On court No. 1, De Samucewicz stormed back from a first set 6-1 loss to Cristina Mayorova to force a tiebreaker in the second set before ultimately dropping the match 6-1, 7-6 (7-0).
On court No. 3, Tatum Burger went toe-to-toe and shot-for-shot with Clemson's Medvedeva before falling 7-5, 7-6 (7-3).
Coastal will return to the courts tomorrow to take on Presbyterian College at 11 a.m. ET in Clinton, S.C.
