Women’s tennis team has won two-straight matches
BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's team picked up its second consecutive win, again on the road, as the Chanticleers downed the Campbell Fighting Camels 6-1 on Thursday afternoon in Buies Creek, N.C.
The win propels Coastal to 2-4 on the season, while the loss drops Campbell to 3-4 overall for the year.
Coming off a 7-0 sweep at Presbyterian on Monday, the Chanticleers carried the momentum over into the match on Thursday, scoring the doubles point with wins at the top two flights.
The duo of Megan Hopton and Anna Babayan held on for a 7-5 win over Campbell's team of Lena Karlovcan and Mialy Ranaivo on court No. 1 to seal the point after the tandem of Lilie Steryous and Tatum Burger cruised to a 6-2 win over Mariana Ossa and Anna-Marie Kopecka on court No. 2.
In singles action, junior Jesse Hollins again dominated in her match, winning 6-2, 6-0 over Ossa on court No. 6, while Hopton and Babayan followed with back-to-back 6-2, 6-2 straight-set wins on courts No. 3 and No. 2 to give the Chants a 4-0 lead.
With the match win in hand, the Chants' Burger won 6-3, 6-3 on court No. 4 over Ranaivo to push the lead to 5-0.
Victoire De Samucewicz added to the Chants' lead at 6-0 with a three-set 0-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-7) win over Tamsin Hart on court No. 1 before Campbell's Abbie Tyler edged Steryous in a 10-point tiebreaker at 5-7, 6-4, 1-0 (10-3) to spoil the visitor's shutout bid.
Coastal returns home to host both Longwood and UNCG on Sunday, March 5. CCU will take on the Lancers at 11 a.m. ET and then turn around to face off with the Spartans at 3 p.m. ET.
