CONWAY, S.C. – After a two-match road swing in the state of Florida this week, the Coastal Carolina men's tennis team will be back in action this weekend to play not one, but two matches over the two days. CCU will host SCAD on Saturday, March 11, at 3 p.m. ET and then hit the road to face off with No. 14 Wake Forest on Sunday, March 12, at 3 p.m. ET in Winston-Salem, N.C.
The Chanticleers enter the weekend at 8-4 overall but have dropped each of their last two contests after winning three-straight matches to start the month of March.
Coastal, who is 3-2 on its home court this season, is coming off back-to-back road losses at North Florida (March 7) and Stetson (March 8).
Despite the two team losses, CCU's
Ryuya Ata and
Guilherme Toresan are both riding a three-match winning streak into play this weekend, while
Maj Tomac,
Jesus Garcia, and
Rivers Cahill all have won each of their last two singles bouts.
It's been a balanced attack for the Chants all season, as Toresan leads the team with seven singles victories on the year, while Ata,
Carlos Berna Ruiz, and Tomac all have six wins and
Lucas Wayenburg has five.
Ranked No. 24 in the latest NAIA Men's Tennis Coaches' Top 25 Poll (March 8), SCAD enters the match on Saturday at 2-3 overall with wins over Converse (March 3) and Marian (March 8).
The Demon Deacons enter the weekend ranked No. 14 in the most recent ITA Division I Men's Collegiate Tennis Rankings sponsored by Tennis-Point and are 15-5 overall on the year.
However, Wake Forest will not have an easy time before playing the Chants on Sunday afternoon, as the Demon Deacons will host No. 23 Florida State on Friday, March 10, and No. 60 Miami (Fla.) on Sunday morning at 11 a.m. ET.
