Coastal Softball to Host North Carolina on Tuesday

Chants are on an eight-game win streak

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina softball team will look to add to its eight-game win streak when they face the North Carolina Tar Heels on Tuesday, March 11. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. ET.
 
Lookin' Back
  • The Chants secured their biggest win of the season when they downed the Ohio State Buckeyes, 6-4, with a two-run walk-off home run by Indya Smith.
  • The Chanticleers went undefeated at the Beach Chicken Brawl at St. John Stadium, March 10-12.
  • CCU made light work of the Houston Christian Huskies closing out both games in just five innings.
  • Raelee Brabham matched her career-high of 12 strikeouts, pitching a complete game in Coastal's 5-2 victory against the Canisius Golden Griffins.
 
Chants in the Rankings
  • The Chanticleers are steaming ahead on the season going 23-3 overall which ranks the team top five in the nation and first in the Sun Belt for overall record.
  • There are only 21 other schools in the country that have accumulated 20+ wins on the season.
  • The Chants have the second-best home record in the NCAA with a 19-2 at St. John Stadium this year.
 
Scouting the Opponent
  • The Tar Heels are 9-15 overall on the season and are coming off a 2-1 series loss to the Virginia Tech Hokies.
  • North Carolina has secured wins over two top 50 (RPI) teams, defeating the No.39 VA Tech Hokies 4-0, and the No. 41 Minnesota Golden Gophers, 1-0 and 10-5.
  • The Tar Heels are yet to win a game on the road, posting a 0-3 record.
  • Senior Bri Stubbs leads the team with a .375 batting average and has had seven multi-hit games on the season.
  • The Chants should look out for Abby Settlemere who is on a six-game hitting streak and has recorded four doubles, four home runs, and 42 RBIs this season.
  • The starting pitcher for the Tar Heels, Lilli Backes, has posted a 2.42 ERA with 41 strikeouts but this has not been reflected in her 4-8 record in the circle.
 
History Against
  • Head coach Kelley Green has a 1-4 record against North Carolina.
  • The Chanticleers have a 4-25 all-time series record against the Tar Heels and have dropped their previous three encounters
  • Coastal's last victory against North Carolina came back in 2014 when they downed the Tar Heels 3-0 at St. John Stadium with assistant coast Amanda Daneker recording four putouts and two assists in the win.
  • The Chants have a long-standing history with North Carolina dating back to 1990.
