Coastal Carolina to Meet Harvard for the First Time on Tuesday

Downey leads Coastal Carolina with 28 points

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's lacrosse team will host Harvard on Tuesday, March 14, in Conway, S.C. The opening draw is scheduled for noon ET in Conway, S.C.
 
Coastal enters the contest at 4-2 overall after defeating the Iona Gaels 15-10 last Sunday for the third consecutive win, while the Harvard Crimson enter play at 1-4 on the year.
 
COASTAL vs. HARVARD HISTORY
The Chanticleers and Harvard will be meeting for the first time. The Crimson is the third of six opponents the Chants will face for the first time this season.
 
ABOUT COASTAL
The CCU offense is led by Kayla Downey (18 goals, 10 assists) with 28 points, while Avery McIlwaine (14 goals, 4 assists), Hope Steuerwald (14 goals), Avery Snyder (3 goals, 10 assists) follow with 118, 14, and 13 points, respectively. The offense is ignited by Devin Rybacki and McIlwaine, as the duo has won 24 and 20 draw controls each.
 
Defensively, the Chants are anchored by their starting goalkeeper Claire Martell, who has started all six contests. The redshirt junior goalie has stopped 42 shots and allowed 46 goals in almost 280 minutes in the cage on the season. Claudia Kelly has forced seven turnovers and grabbed seven groundballs to help return possession back to the offense.
 
ABOUT HARVARD
Harvard's Riley Campbell (12 goals, 3 assists) and Callie Hem (12 goals, 2 assists) are the only Crimson players in double digits in points, while Caroline Mullahy (2 goals, 7 assists) is right behind with nine points. Maddie Barkate and Shea Jenkins get the offense started by winning 30 and 14 draw controls, respectively, to lead the team.
 
Defensively, the Crimson have played both goalkeepers in four of the five games, with Lizzie Francioli playing 158 minutes and having started four of the five contests in which she has allowed 34 goals and made 14 saves in the 67 shots faced. Goalkeeper Chloe Provenzano has played in four games with one start, while allowing 28 goals and stopping 20 of the opponent's shots. Despina Giannakopoulos leads the team with five caused turnovers, while Ilana Kofman has scooped up a team-high 11 groundballs.
