CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina softball team (24-6) will hit the road for its second true away contest of the year. The Chants will take on the Charleston Southern Buccaneers (9-16) at 2 p.m. ET on Tuesday.
Lookin' Back
• The Chants dropped to 24-6 on the season after the James Madison Dukes beat CCU 2-1 in its three-game conference series opener.
• The Chanticleers won the first game of the series 3-2 after
Riley Zana hit a two-run walk-off double to secure the victory.
•
Raelee Brabham set a career-high with 13 strikeouts while pitching her fourth complete game of the season in CCU's 2-1 loss in game two.
• CCU suffered its first shutout of the season during the series-deciding game in which the Dukes scored a late run in the top of the seventh inning to notch the 1-0 victory.
• North Carolina downed CCU 8-6 on Tuesday after the Tar Heels scored three runs in the final inning to take the win.
• The Chants had a season-high of six hits and five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning versus North Carolina.
Scouting the Opponent
• Charleston Southern is 9-16 overall on the season and is currently in a rut after losing its last eight games.
• CSU suffered two losses to Ohio State, who the Chants beat 6-4 on March 10 at the Beach Chicken Brawl.
• The Bucs have hit just two home runs on the season in comparison to the Chants' 38.
• Offensively, CSU has a .211 batting average with 23 doubles and 39 RBIs.
• Senior starting pitcher Annah Junge has posted a 3.12 ERA and has recorded 71 strikeouts during her 92.1 innings of work in the circle.
• Ashley Meckley leads the team with 21 hits on the season, scoring 10 runs and driving in four RBIs.
History Against Charleston Southern
• CCU and Charleston Southern have played each other every year since 1987 with the exception of 2020 when the season was cut short due to the pandemic.
• Coastal has a 71-35 overall record against the Buccaneers and has won its last three games.
• Head coach
Kelley Green has a 23-12 record versus CSU.
• Four members of the current roster played a part in Coastal's latest 10-1 victory over the Bucs in March 2022, with
Riley Zana,
Maddy Jennings,
Keirstin Roose, and
Payton Ebersole each hitting home runs.
• The Chants have won eight out of their last 10 games against CSU.
