Chants Fall Short Against Georgia State

Coastal softball recorded five hits in the game

Box Score ATLANTA, GA. – The Coastal Carolina softball team (24-8) fell short, 2-1 against the Georgia State Panthers (12-17) on Friday evening in Atlanta, Ga.

The Chanticleers were first to get on the scoreboard in the top of the third inning when Diamond Williams smashed a home run over the right-field wall to give the Chants a 1-0 lead.

CCU looked to extend its lead in the top of the fourth inning when Delaney Keith and Maddy Jennings struck singles to center field and second base, respectively, but the Panthers stopped the Chants in their tracks to keep the score at 1-0.

Georgia State got back in the game in the bottom of the fifth inning when Emily Brown tripled to left-center field. Then a walk and a stolen base put the Chants in a tough spot with two runners in scoring position. GSU rose to the occasion when Chloe Nadler hit a single to left field to drive in two RBIs to push the Panthers out in front 2-1.

Some loose pitching in the top of the sixth inning allowed Keith to reach third on a walk, passed ball, and a wild pitch but GSU's Elle Doolittle struck out the final hitter to keep the score at 2-1.

Entering the seventh inning, the Chants were down one run when Abbey Montoya crushed a leadoff double to left-center field and then advanced to third on a throwing error but Coastal's hopes were squashed when GSU secured the final three outs to take the 2-1 win.

Raelee Brabham dropped to 9-4 with the loss, recording five strikeouts while giving up seven hits and two runs.

The Chanticleers will seek revenge against the Panthers at 1 p.m. ET tomorrow.
