Chants Face Off Against Georgia Southern for Three-Game Series

Game one is set to commence at 6 p.m. ET on Friday

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina softball team (25-9) will return to St. John Stadium this weekend to face off against the Georgia Southern Eagles in a three-game Sun Belt Conference series, March 31 – April 2.

Lookin' Back
  • The Chants fell to 25-9 overall and 2-4 in conference play after dropping a three-game series to Georgia State 2-1 in Atlanta, Ga., last weekend.
  • Abbey Montoya set a career-high of four hits and four runs to help CCU secure an 11-3 win over GSU in its final matchup on Sunday afternoon. During the game, Montoya smashed an RBI double and her second home run of the season.
  • Diamond Williams also went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate in Coastal's third game against the Panthers. The transfer senior recorded a two-run single, a home run, and an RBI double while scoring two runs of her own.
  • CCU was edged in the first two games of the series by just one run after going up 1-0 in both contests.
  • Payton Ebersole secured her first home run of the season to put the Chants up 5-3 in game two on Saturday, March 25.

Scouting the Opponent
  • Georgia Southern has posted an 11-17 overall record and has gone 1-5 in conference play, which ranks them 11th in the Sun Belt.
  • The Eagles are sitting on a three-game losing streak after dropping a series to James Madison last weekend.
  • Georgia Southern has a batting average of .241 and has driven in 85 RBIs which ranks them last in the Sun Belt.

  • Junior Courtney Ball is the leadoff hitter for the Eagles and has posted a .318 batting average while driving in 11 RBIs on the season. Ball struck her first triple of the season against JMU last weekend to drive in two RBIs and give GS a 2-0 lead in game two.
  • Morgan Kendrick leads the team with a 3.86 ERA and has posted a 6-1 record in the circle. The redshirt freshman is also atop the team with 58 strikeouts in 49.0 innings of work.
History Against
  • CCU and Georgia Southern have been very evenly matched over the years, with Coastal leading the all-time series 16-15.
  • The Chants are on a two-game losing streak to the Eagles after taking the lead in game one of the three-game series back in 2021.
  • Head coach Kelley Green has an even 10-10 record versus Georgia Southern.
  • The Chants have won six out of their last 10 games against the Eagles.
Versus Same Opponents
  • The Chants faced JMU in their conference opener, March 17-19, and narrowly lost the series 2-1 after taking an early 1-0 lead. All three of CCU's contests against JMU were one-run games, whereas the Eagles suffered three-straight losses including a 9-0 shutout and a 12-7 defeat.
  • Both Georgia State and CCU have posted wins against Colgate earlier in the season, the Eagles downed the Raiders 7-3 and the Chants won 4-1 and 11-2.
