CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina softball team (17-3) will start the week with a pair of home and away contests. The Chanticleers will face the College of Charleston (5-12) on foreign soil on Monday, March 6, at 3 p.m. ET, and then will return to St. John Stadium for a bout against the Campbell Camels (13-7) at 6 p.m. ET on Wednesday, March 8.
The Chanticleers are coming off the back of four wins at the Spring Games where they went 4-1 overall.
Scouting the Opponents
College of Charleston
- CofC got off to a slow start to the season, winning just one of its first seven games.
- The Cougars currently sit on a 5-12 overall record, logging wins against Tennessee Tech, Canisus, Marist, Robert Morris, and Cleveland State.
- CofC won its last contest against Marist 6-0 on Saturday.
- Brooke Tranum has been a power hitter for the Cougars, scoring five runs while recording one triple, two home runs, and five RBIs.
Campbell
- The Camels have posted a 13-7 overall record on the season so far.
- The Chants will be looking to snap Campbell's current three-game win streak.
- This will be the Camels' second away contest of the year, as they are 1-0 in foreign territory.
- Freshman Makayla McClain has played a big role in Campbell's success, posting a .377 batting average while recording 17 runs and 10 RBIs.
History Against
College of Charleston
- The Chants have a long-standing history with the College of Charleston dating back 34 years.
- CCU has a 49-25 overall record versus the Cougars and has won eight of its last 10 contests.
- The last time Coastal and CofC met was in April 2021, when the Chanticleers dominated in a 14-2 win, closing out the game in five innings. Graduate student Abbey Montoya played a pivotal role in this game, blasting a home run down the left line to drive in two RBIs and smashing a two-run double to left field to contribute four runs to the Chanticleers' total.
Campbell
- The Chanticleers have posted a 57-17 overall record against Campbell, dropping just one game in their previous 14 encounters.
- Coastal's latest victory came in April 2022, when the Chants downed the Camels 4-1. Three members of the current roster helped contribute to this win, Iyanla De Jesus drove in an RBI and Riley Zana and Keirstin Roose each scored one run.
